"California's clean air regulator on Thursday adopted rules to mandate that nearly all trips on Uber's and Lyft's ride-hailing platforms have to be in electric vehicles over the next few years, the first such regulation by a U.S. state." says a Reuters report: "Uber and Lyft said they supported the regulation's goals but called for more government to aid their many lower and middle-income drivers with the costs for the transition. The rules, adopted through a unanimous vote by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), mandate that EVs account for 90% of ride-hailing vehicle miles traveled by 2030.  Uber and Lyft have partnerships with rental companies and charging station providers to lower drivers' EV costs. Uber has also said it will invest $800 million through 2025 to help drivers globally switch to EVs."

"It was quite a ride for Tesla to start the Giga Berlin project in Grünheide near Berlin in Germany. First, the company had to prepare the site, which started in mid-February 2020. The actual construction work, under only an early, partial permit (at Tesla's own risk), started in late May 2020." says InsideEVs: "Anyway, unlike the first phase of Tesla Giga Shanghai in China, which produced the first cars within about a year, Tesla Giga Berlin is not yet completed. The good news is that the work is in a really advanced stage. Some buildings and the infrastructure need to be completed. Then the company needs to complete the installation of production equipment.  The production of the first Made-in-Germany (MIG) Tesla Model Y for Europe should start by the end of this year."

"The Belgian government has given the green light to a bill by Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem to accelerate the electrification of company cars in the country. At the same time, the planned ban on internal combustion company cars is off the table, but tax advantages are now only available for EVs." according to electrive.com: "The planned cornerstones, which still have to be implemented in the necessary legislation, are: From 2026, only zero-emission company cars will benefit from tax advantages. New electric cars are to be 100 per cent tax-deductible from 2026. In the years thereafter, the tax deductibility will gradually decrease to 67.5 per cent in 2031.  Companies are also to be able to claim the construction of charging stations for electric cars against tax. In order to be able to claim the tax benefits, however, companies must ensure that the facilities are accessible to the public outside of opening hours."

"Toyota and Nissan are planning to invest 160 billion yen and 200 billion yen in order to increase their EV battery production capacities, respectively. The Nikkei reported on May 29 that the investment from Toyota pertaining to the period of April this year to March next year is approximately 200 percent of that for the previous fiscal year." says Business Korea: "The joint subsidiary of Toyota and Panasonic is planning to build more production lines in Hyogo, Japan and Dalian, China. Primearth EV Energy, another joint company, will increase its production capacity in Japan and China, too. Toyota’s capacity for 2022 is estimated at five million units, twice the capacity it reached last year."

 

 

"Currently, LG Chem supplies NCM 811 battery cells to Tesla in China, but starting next month, there will be a change to the NCMA chemistry. The Tesla Model Y MIC (Made in China) is set to become the first production electric car to get a NCMA battery." says Pedro at PushEVs but what does it mean? He Explains: "Previously, it was expected that GM would be the first automaker to use the NCMA chemistry from LG Chem, with the introduction of its Ultium batteries. The 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 will debut GM’s all-new 800 V Ultium battery architecture capable of 350 kW charging and arrive later this year. GM says that with its Ultium battery made with NCMA cells, the kWh cost at the cell level will be below 100 USD (82 euros). NCMA battery cells have higher nickel and lower cobalt content, which make them cheaper. NCMA battery cells are also more durable, safer and charge faster, but energy density shouldn’t be much different, just a bit higher."

"While we commit so much of California’s climate funds to electric cars it’s fair to ask if there are other options worth exploring. A recent study by the College of Engineering at Portland State University found that subsidies for electric bikes are more cost-effective than electric car incentives at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from private cars. The study focused on the greenhouse gas impacts of subsidies for electric bikes, battery-electric cars and plug-in hybrid electric cars in Oregon." says CAlmatter.org: "E-bikes plug into a regular wall outlet and cost about 1 cent per mile to operate — no need for charging stations. Compared to EVs, E-bikes are carbon crushers. Investing in biking makes people healthier and happier, improves traffic safety and reduces traffic congestion. In the future, we should consider a tax break for small businesses to purchase cargo E-bikes for local deliveries. "

 

 

"Registrations were up for an impressive 249% last month, to some 392,000 units, the 4th best month ever, with BEVs jumping 235%, to some 251,000 units, so we might be seeing the plugin market hit 5 million units this year." according to data from the ev-sales.blogspot: "These impressive results this year kept the 2021 PEV share to 5.7% (3.7% BEV), which is already significantly above the 4% of last year. There are two new faces on the Top 5, with the VW ID.4 debuting in 4th, with 10,318 units, its first five-digit score, while its (slightly) older brother, the ID.3, makes its first appearance this year, in #5. In the podium, besides the Wuling Mini EV return to the top position, after a win in January, there an important mark concerning both Teslas, as last month the Tesla Model Y managed to beat the Model 3 for the first time ever"
