"The European passenger plugin vehicle market continues to rise. There were more than 159,000 plugin vehicle registrations in April, and 616,000 in the year to date (YTD). The plugin vehicle share of the overall auto market in April was 15% (7.1% fully electric vehicles), keeping the 2021 plugin vehicle (PEV) share at 15% and the fully electric vehicle (BEV) share at 6.7%." reports CleanTechnica" Last year’s winner, the Renault Zoe, was only 5th last month, its lowest standing in over 3 years(!) — so, after the Nissan Leaf (best seller in 2018, 7th in 2020, 16th now) and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (3rd in 2019, 12th in 2020, now below the top 20), the last bastion of success of the Renault-Nissan Alliance is also suffering. The warning sirens must be ringing in the Alliance’s European HQ."

Looking at Jan-Apr the #1 is MOdel 3.

 

Volkswagen Group is now the leader with a 23 % market share. Stellantis (14%), Daimler (12%) and BMW (12%) at four.

 

 

"Italy’s government is in talks with Stellantis, the carmaker formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group, about investing in electric-vehicle battery manufacturing in the country, according to people familiar with the matter." says Automotive News EUerope "A meeting in Rome this week between Stellantis Chairman John Elkann, CEO Carlos Tavares and Giancarlo Giorgetti, Italy's economic development minister, centered around the future of electric mobility in the country, said the people, who asked not to be named because the gathering was private. PSA was further along in investing in EVs before its merger with Fiat, having made plans for a roughly 5 billion-euro project with oil giant Total that is backed by the French government. PSA's stronger sales of plug-in hybrids and battery-powered cars enabled Stellantis to exit an emissions-credit agreement that Fiat had set up with Tesla in 2019."

 

 

The Kia Soul EV has picked up the prize for ‘Best value electric car’ at the Auto Trader New Car Awards 2021. Auto Trader’s New Car Awards is an annual consumer-led vote on the best cars currently for sale in the UK. Winners are decided by the British car-buying public, with owners asked to rate their vehicle based on 16 categories, including stability, reliability, safety and features.

 

"ChargePoint, one of the world's largest EV charging networks, focuses on the places where people tend to spend time outside the home, like movie theaters, shopping centers, and libraries.  But as it continues to grow its global network of 112,000 plug-in spots, it has put much of its focus on the places where Americans once spent most of their waking lives, and to which they're steadily returning: the office. "reports Business INsider: "Employees are six times more likely to drive electric when they can charge at work, according to a 2016 report from the US Department of Energy. Office charging can be more than a convenient perk for workers: It can be an incentive that attracts and retains talent."

 

 

"The UK motoring organisation RAC is working to install emergency EV chargers in many more of its patrol vans. The on-route assistance programme is thus preparing for a larger rollout of electric vehicles in the UK." says electrive; "RAC EV Boost was launched as a 3.5kW charger in April 2019. Now with two years of field experience to aid development efforts, the RAC and Original ADS managed to develop a new 5kW unit capable of faster charging. Development work is also underway for a mobile 7.5kW charger. RAC plans to have 200 vans equipped to boost out-of-charge EVs by the end of 2021."

 

 

"As part of its mission to make world-class electric drives accessible, Integral e-Drive has made available a family of three ultra-high-performance machines off-the-shelf in single sample quantities." according to Green Car COngress: "Based closely on series production units and manufactured to automotive quality standards in its recently opened Milton Keynes facility, the CTSM242 family combines up to 400 kW and 520 N·m in a compact package with a mass of <30kg. Integral e-Drive has acquired a substantial share of premium racing and hypercar markets and, following investment in in-house manufacturing processes, it has now made this technology accessible to higher volume applications."

 

 

"BP, Sinopec, Equinor and Royal Dutch Shell are among the producers looking to hydrogen to help secure demand that otherwise may falter as decarbonisation speeds up. They want to utilise existing pipelines, storage tankers and fuel supply to make blue hydrogen, a process that uses natural gas but captures the carbon emissions and stores them." says The Straits TImes: "Gas companies aiming to lower emissions now and avoid obsolescence next decade are planning to pour billions of dollars into building their blue businesses. Natural gas is used in almost all hydrogen production today. That earns the disdain of environmental, social, and governance investors, environmental groups and governments trying to slow climate change because the most common method, called steam-methane reforming, also produces large amounts of carbon dioxide that are dumped in the air."
