5/21 D-Fly & Dixie: Surging Scourge
May 21, 2021, 11:43 AM
Maverik May Madness is in full swing, and D-Fly and Dixie are here to get you set for Quarterfinal Weekend. They’ll talk news of the week, preview the four monstrous games and share a conversation with Maryland head coach, John Tillman, as he prepares his undefeated Terrapins for a game against Notre Dame in South Bend.
First the guys talk about how they enjoyed watching the first-round games, and Dixie manages to slide in a humble brag about his new set of wheels. Dixie gives a parting shot on the eight teams that exited after the first round, and Dan questions what went wrong on a promising Denver season that fell short of its goals.
Next they talk about the Inside Lacrosse Media All-Americans and share some of their thoughts on the selections. D-Fly can’t help but bring up, again, the lack of love for the Big Ten this season.
They jump into the game previews and there are two tremendous doubleheaders on tap beginning at noon each of Saturday and Sunday on ESPNU. Maryland head coach John Tillman was kind enough to spend a good deal of time with the guys, and they cover a wide-range of subjects. They discuss Maryland’s season through the COVID-lens, the unique history of wearing the No. 1 jersey in College Park, Jared Bernhardt’s greatness, and the repercussions of playing a B1G-only schedule.
They also discuss the tremendous recent success of Maryland alumni in the pros, how the Maryland defense begins with baby-faced Logan McNaney and also the unsung stalwarts of the potent Terrapin Offense outside of the two stars, Jared Bernhardt and Logan Wisnauskas.
In the usual closing question, we learn that restaurant managers Fear the Turtle as the Terps always 86 Italian restaurants, and we learn of a cool, under-the-radar team meal tradition that owes its roots to coaching legend, Richie Moran.
