National Drive Electric Week - This will be the 8th annual event, with a record 316 events registered across the US, Canada and New Zealand. Thanks to Electrek for reminding me! My excuse is being over here in the UK, they say: "The week is organized by Plug in America, an organization which advocates the transition to electric transportation, along with Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association.Ā Every event is free to attend for owners and non-owners alike, and attending is a great way to get the word out or get your questions answered about electric vehicles."

PORSCHE TAYCAN: EV SNAPPED WITH MINIMAL DISGUISE
Ā
- CAR Magazine in the UK report: "Our spy photographers have got pictures of a new Porsche ā but this time itās not the next 911, itās the all-electric Porsche Taycan. We havenāt seen the āEV formerly known as Mission Eā in a while but these new pictures show it in great detail ā and with less camouflage than usual. The front bumper appears to be production spec, and again looks like a mish-mash of the German brandās saloon and supercar. Thatās no surprise though, as the Taycan is designed to slot between both models in terms of size and performance. Other things to look at are a pair of ridiculous fake exhausts, and what could be production-spec wheels. "

THE 2018 TESLA MODEL 3 LONG RANGE IS THE PERFECT MIX
Ā
- There's a new Jalopnik review out today, as they spent a week in the Long Range RWD Model 3. There's nothing in here that you don't know, but it's interesting because this is a website that can be deliberately spikey at times, certainly cynical, and that's just their house style so I was curious to read how they might have poked the Model 3. The article reads like someone who is either new to EV's or writing a piece because they know their readers of Jalopnik are petrol heads, but it's a detailed reviews and worth reading.
Ā
- "One of the big draws for Tesla is that itās a company that thinks differently from the competition, and nowhere else is this more readily apparent than inside the Model 3 itself. Even the glovebox doesnāt have a physical latch. You have to use the screen to open it up, an annoying and unnecessary extra step. I didnāt know how much I would miss a glovebox latch until it was taken away from me."
- "My other main gripe with the car was its lack of a key or key fob. I downloaded the Tesla app, connected my phone to the car via Bluetooth and could access information like where the car was parked and unlock it remotely. That was neat, but I still just wanted a damn key, or a fob like pretty much all other new cars have these days. And not everyone has a smartphone. What then?"
Ā
- "Maybe the acceleration gets old for some after a while, but it didnāt for me. Having said that, I also cannot deny that its silence and single-gear transmission give it more of an appliance-like feel at times, like it was a dish that was missing a crucial spice that would have given it that final kick."

FORD TRANSIT PLUG IN COMING IN 2019
- There's a new Ford Transit PHEV testing on the roads right now. They say: "Fordās innovative Transit Custom PHEV has an advanced hybrid system that targets a zero-emission range of up to 50 kilometres (31 miles), and features the multi-award winning 1.0litre EcoBoost petrol engine as a range extender. The EcoBoost engine charges the on-board batteries when longer trips are required between charging stops, providing operators with outstanding efficiency and flexibility, and a total range of more than 500 kilometres (310 miles). Displayed in final production form in Hannover, the PHEV has a compact liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack located under the load floor, preserving the full cargo volume offered by the standard van. The vehicle features the all-new interior design from the latest Transit Custom, including dedicated information displays for the PHEV variant."
Ā
- "New Transit customers will be able to specify 48-volt mHEV technology on manual transmission vehicles to further improve fuel efficiency, particularly in stop-start urban driving. The mHEV system captures energy on deceleration in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery, and uses the stored energy to help drive the engine and electrical ancillaries."

JV PLANS TO LET EV DRIVERS MONITOR CHARGE RATES THROUGH SMARTPHONES
Ā
"A joint venture is aiming to allow drivers monitor their electric vehicleās charging progress via their smartphones." reports Greg Hyde for TU Auto: "Kansas City engineering firm Burns & McDonnell and Los Angeles EV charging technology maker Greenlots are building an āadvancedā EV charging network at the Missouri companyās HQ. The pair hope their connectivity solution will let an EVās driver monitor their vehicleās battery supply levels via an app within Greenlotsā SKY operating platform while it is being charged on Burns & McDonnellās open standards electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE)."

LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SPORT FACELIFT SPIED FOR THE FIRST TIME
Spy shots on Motor 1 show the bestselling Land Rover Discovery Sport in camouflage: "We donāt see any cutouts for exhaust, suggesting this could be a plug-in hybrid model. In fact, our spy photographers say the prototype did in fact say hybrid on the windshield, though it doesnāt come through very well in the photos."

NISSAN LEAF SELLING WELL IN JAPAN AND EUROPE
- "The Nissan LEAF has captured the head and heart of Europeās motorists, with nearly 70% of LEAF owners changing from internal combustion engines to electric mobility for the first time. Across Europe, 43,000 LEAFs were sold in the first eight months of 2018, making it the best-selling EV across the continent."
Ā
- My question would be to imagine a world where the Tesla Model 3 is available in Europe.
Ā
- Meanwhile InsideEVs having a look in their Scorecard to the LEAF in Japan: "The second-generation Nissan LEAF noted 2,065 sales in August, which made it the #31 best-selling model overall for the month. The annual growth of sales is high at 234%. Through the first eight months of the year, Nissan sold in Japan 18,691 LEAFs (more than in 12 months of any previous year), which is 111% more than a year ago."

BMW X5 TO GET MORE ELECTRIFICATION
- "BMW X5 is to be extended in the course of 2019 with the addition of a new plug-in hybrid system. The new BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance combines a model-specific in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the very latest BMW eDrive technology." according to Electric Cars Report: "The new BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance offers optimised qualities in terms of both driving dynamics and efficiency. It does the sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds ā more than one second less than the predecessor model. The top speed when driving on electric power alone is increased from 120 to 140 km/h. Its electrically powered range is now approximately 80 kilometres, almost three times that of its predecessor."
