#Florence EV Driver Resource UPDATE: Saturday, 6:30 AM: Wilmington, Fayetteville & Wallace, NC Tesla Superchargers reported as temporarily closed. Life-threatening storm surge and catastrophic flash flooding forecast.
BP TRIALS FREEWIRE EV CHARGING SYSTEM IN HAMMERSMITH
- "BP has launched a trial of FreeWire EV rapid charging service, which will run until the end of October." according to PetrolPlaza.com "BP FreeWire is a mobile rapid charging system, capable of recharging EVs at up to 50 kW. It will achieve 80% of battery life in approximately 30 minutes, according to BP. During this trial, charging is free – as is parking – and EV drivers simply need to park up. A FreeWire operator will be available on-site, who will explain the set-up and will start and end the charging."
MICROLINO PRE-ORDERS HIT 8000
- Earlier this week on the podcast we were talking about the BMW pre-order of the iX3, not available until 2020 but they were testing the waters for pre-orders. THey did ok with 1000.
- Meet the Micfrolino, a new company which just exceeded $100m, in pre-orders. It's not exactly a successor to the bubble car or the BMW Isetta, with a single dorr on the front which you swing open to enter.
- THey say: "“The goal was to create a vehicle, which was inspired by the bubble cars from the 50’s, but with modern design and technology. In addition, it should be eco-friendly in production and during usage.”"
- Those pre-orders coming mostly from Germany and Switzerland, again with a 1000Euro deposit, but there's no two year wait until production starts like the BMW, they're kicking off in October.
- Micah Toll for Electrek says: "The retro design and appealing marketing have been successful at winning over new drivers, with the company announcing over 8,000 pre-orders for the new vehicles. At €12,000 ($14,000), the Microlino’s price is not that much higher than many commuter electric motorcycles, and considerably cheaper than some other affordable family sized electric cars. The little bubble car’s top speed is 90 km/h (56 mph) and range is estimated at 125-200 km (78-125 mi) with either an 8 kWh or 14.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack."

PRINCE CHARLES GETS HIS I-PACE
- "As Jaguar dealerships in the United States anxiously await the arrival of the new I-PACE electric SUV, some can’t stop talking about one big name overseas celebrity already having his hands on one! We’re talking about Prince Charles!" reports Emma Moreau for SUVS.com: "The vehicle wasn’t just gifted to him, either. Prince Charles reportedly loved it so much he decided to lease the vehicle with money out of his own pocket. Ahead of the vehicle’s arrival, he even had a fast charger installed at the Clarence House home."

WALLBOX CHARGERS GET FASHIONABLE
- You know EVs are moving past the early adopters when you read a story like this. Coming via our friends at InsideEVs...: "Spanish charging station manufacturer – Wallbox – is approaching a milestone of 20,000 installations around the world (mostly in Europe, but also as far as in China and New Zealand). Three main products (soon to be presented at the British CENEX show) are “fashionable” charging stations."
- Wallbox co-founder and CEO Enric Asuncion says: "To date the emergence of electric propulsion has mostly been framed in terms of societal and environmental change. We recognize these big issues but are also responding with a new design language, one that rewards the important choices people are making with solid engineering, creativity and functionality to deliver charging solutions that have emotion and flair.”

QUESTION OF THE WEEK
KYLE HODGSON
Helpful: Ontario government EV incentive website. Went there for the details on the incentive, stayed for the super helpful table comparing the various cars and their ranges. Ontario plug 'n drive https://www.plugndrive.ca where we could test drive cars that most dealers didn't have on lot. Plugshare website and app for planning road trips.
Less useful: Manufacturer websites were not helpful until we had narrowed down to a make and model. Google maps! Quite poor at finding charging stations.

My go to place for EV's is speakev.com as it has lots of great advice on every EV model. It also a very friendly place although occasionally some might get a bit heated with certain views but the sites moderators are pretty much on the ball.

Re the "Question of the week" : Since my purchase of a LEAF in 2011, I've mostly depended on monitoring the www.mynissanleaf.com forums for both LEAF-specific and general EV information. I've also avidly followed Robert Llewellyn's "FullyCharged" videos, from his 2010 pilot onwards, and several other more recent channels like Transport Evolved and EV Opinion.

YouTube & the internet is where I get 99% of my info. I subscribe to several EV Youtubers eg., Fully Charged, Transport Evolved, EV News Daily, E for Electric, Autoline Daily, Now You Know, Rich Rebuilds, Electric Vehicle Man, Teslanomics, CleanTech News, Model 3 Owners Club, EV Revolution, The EV Puzzle, Alex Venz, James Cooke, etc
DAMIEN DAVIS
Consumer report is my go to for all things car, but I also like to watch inside ev, and videos posted by owners on YouTube. As for the charging station I installed a 240 v myself using instructables.com. But I’m a big time DIY person, for better or worse. 😬
ROBERT NICKSON
On the internet, because I can get lots of different opinions
RON SUPERJET
As others have mentioned - YouTube is one of the best places to find out about EV's, some great channels run by people that really seem to understand the technology and other channels run by actual EV owners, these people live with electric cars on a day today basis, you would be hard pushed to find a better place to get your info from.
ANDREW JACOBS
You are now my primary source of information. Keep up the great work and thank you!
AARON BOUNDS
When looking for information about electric vehicles, I go to YouTube, watch as many videos on a given topic related to EVs as I can find, put it through a sort of meta-analysis in my head, and come up with an opinion after that. Several legitimate organizations have YouTube publications, and it's also important to me to get input from random individuals who can't possibly have any "big money" influences.
