TESLA ENABLES FREE SUPERCHARGING TO ESCAPE WILDFIRES
- “Due to wildfires in California, your vehicle has been granted free supercharging. We hope this provides assistance for your transportation needs and will notify you before returning your vehicle to its original configuration in mid-December. Safe travels.”
Â
- "Tesla has also released additional battery capacity to those cars with software-limited battery packs in the areas affected by the fires, just as they did during Hurricane Florence. The additional capacity will also be reverted in mid-December" - Electrek

HYUNDAI SAGA EV CONCEPT REVEALED
- The next story comes via Motor1.com in Brazil, and of course by Google translate! This should be fun..."Hyundai is looking at ways to increase its strength in the Brazilian market. Some of them were concentrated in a single prototype. The SAGA EV is a small crossover with electric motorization, created not only to anticipate the new design identity of the company for the models in Brazil but also to feel a bit of what the public thinks of the idea of a smaller utility than Crete and if they would like a fully electric car."
- Maybe we should check in with InsideEVs for something which makes a little more sense: "Saga EV – which turns out to be equipped with Kona Electric goodies (64 kWh battery and 150 kW electric motor). The all-new style of the Saga EV was designed by Hyundai Design North America in Irvine, California. It previews the Hyundai HB20X crossover (i20 Active). According to news from Brazil, a production electric CUV based on the i20 could be ready for the local market as early as 2019. Hyundai Saga EV spec: 64 kWh battery for 470 km (292 miles) of range, 150 kW electric motor, 0-80% recharge in 54 minutes"

MAZDA SCRAMBLES TO BUILD ELECTRIFIED CARS TO AVOID HUGE FINES
- "While it doesn't offer any hybrids or electric vehicles, Mazda is the most fuel-efficient car company in the US simply because it doesn't sell any trucks or engines larger than a four-cylinder. This strategy may be working fine over here, but it is about to catch up with the company in Europe where emission laws are more strict." reports CarBuzz.com: "Automotive News Europe reports that Mazda will be forced to pay European Union fines for failing to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Mazda CEO Akira Marumoto told reporters the fines are related to the company's high proportion of SUV sales. To avoid further penalties, Mazda will have to speed up its introduction of hybrids and EVs. The company has plans to electrify its entire lineup by 2035, including mild-hybrid versions of its core models as soon as 2019. Mazda also plans to introduce a pure EV and a range-extender model with a rotary engine by 2020."
Â
JAGUAR I-PACE SALES EXCEEDED 1,000 IN OCTOBER
- "Jaguar sold in October 1,200 I-PACE. It’s a new highest result, which brings total deliveries to 2,468. When we look at Jag’s total volume of 13,764 (up 11.6%) for the month, we note that I-PACE not only accounted for 8.7% share for the brand, but almost the entire increase of sales for Jaguar fall on the I-PACE’s shoulders." reports Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com "So far it seems that the introduction of I-PACE was a very smart move for Jaguar, which in the near future probably will try to utilize its platform to develop other models. We believe there should be no problem in exceeding 2,000 units a month sometime soon."

ANDY MURRAY TALKS JAGUAR I-PACE AND ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING
- You’re running an I-Pace at the moment, and had an F-Pace before that. How do the two Jaguar SUVs compare?
- “The biggest difference is the sound. The I-Pace is also extremely smooth. Both cars suit what I need in terms of sports: they can fit all the equipment in the boot. I’ve got two kids now, and the I-Pace is great for them as well. Wrongly, I assumed you wouldn’t be able to go very far with it, but you can go 270 miles, which is obviously a long trip, so it’s great.”
- How have you found the public charging network?
- “I charged up once in a service station and that was fine. Obviously it’s a little bit longer than filling up in a petrol station, but the reason for me having to do that was that I hadn’t planned in advance. Now I charge the car pretty much every night when I’m at home.”

45% OF CURRENT ELECTRIC CAR DRIVERS PLAN TO BUY A TESLA NEXT
- Below is one chapter of our new electric car driver report, Electric Car Drivers: Demands, Desires & Dreams.
- "87% of North American Tesla drivers plan to buy another Tesla next, and that is without removing several respondents who said they didn’t intend to buy another car or had no idea what their next car would be. More specifically, 33% of them intended to get a Model 3, 17% a Model Y, 17% a Model S, 16% a Model X, and several even wrote in “Tesla Roadster” or “Tesla Pickup” since those vehicles weren’t on the list of options. In Europe, the figure was 83%, with 34% choosing the Model 3, 28% the Model S, 13% the Model Y, 8% the Model Y, and 2% the next Roadster."
- "Non-Tesla pure-electric drivers largely drove LEAFs (43%) and Bolts (27%) in North America and LEAFs (34%) and Zoes (25%) in Europe. Other vehicles with fairly strong showings in North America were the Fiat 500e (6%), BMW i3 (5%), Ford Focus Electric (4%), VW e-Golf (4%), and Kia Soul EV (4%). In Europe, the cars at or above 4% of non-Tesla, pure-EV market share were the pure electric BMW i3 (10%), Hyundai Ioniq Electric (10%), Kia Soul EV (6%), and VW e-Golf (5%)."
