RENAULT TESTS ZOE PROTOTYPE WITH CCS COMBO CHARGING INLET

  • "Roland van der Put, Head of Network Technology at Fastned, shared an image of a prototype of the Renault ZOE with a CCS Combo charging inlet for DC fast charging and AC normal charging." says Mark Kane at InsideEVs: "The next-generation ZOE is expected to still maintain the 22 kW AC charging through its Type 2 plug (3-phase), but thanks to DC the charging time during long-distance travel should decrease significantly."
  • Roland said: "I am at the testing symposium in Arnhem today. I feel like Iā€™m in a candy store with all cars and chargers being tested with CCS chargers: Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model 3, Mercedes EQC, Renault Zoe, Audi e-tron, BMW i3 and many more! šŸ˜Žā€

Ā

  • One of the comments from user mustangsalad said: "Nissan is doing a disservice to EV adoption by making charging needlessly more complicated than it has to be. I get it, they were out the door first, argue that CCS was a stalling tactic if you want, but itā€™s clear at this point that the rest of the industry is behind CCS for EU and NA, and Nissan is in a position to end this. I was hoping that the Gen 2 Leaf would at least support both connectors, maybe the long range version will get it, but Iā€™m not overly hopeful."

DAIMLER ACCELERATES LOCALIZATION OF MERCEDES-BENZ PRODUCTS WITH INVESTMENT IN NEW TECH CENTER CHINA

  • Daimler announced plans today to build a Research and Development Tech Center China with a total investment of over 1.1 billion RMB (approximately 145 million EUR). This marks the further expansion of the companyā€™s footprint in its single largest market and will be its second major R&D site in Beijing, following the Mercedes-Benz R&D Center established in 2014. Located on the premises of the local production hub Beijing Benz Automotive Co. Ltd. (BBAC), the R&D Tech Center will allow Daimler to accelerate the localization of new Mercedes-Benz products in China. Scheduled to start operations in 2020, the R&D Tech Centerā€™s proximity to the production hub will enable the integrated campus concept of local production with R&D, through the existing pilot plant, test track and test benches at BBAC, together and new test labs and workshops at the R&D Tech Center for testing in new energy vehicle technology, powertrain and chassis, emissions and in-vehicle air quality.

FIRST NATIONAL CAR-SHARING SYSTEM LAUNCHED IN MALTA

  • Maltaā€™s first ā€œgreenā€ car-sharing system was launched Wednesday, with close to 1,000 users already registered. The initiative will allow people to share electric cars by parking them in a designated parking spot and then allowing other users to find and use the car via an application. Cars are often stationary for most of the day, since people stay in working in their office, Transport Minister Ian Borg noted." according to The Times Of Malta: "Some 150 electric vehicles are already available, and the company hopes to have another 150 by the end of next year. A number of charging points have also been made available. The country has set an indicative target of 5,000 electric vehicles uptake by 2020, but data tabled in Parliament shows only 1,356 registered electric vehicles had been registered by 2017."

TESLA SLASHES PRICE OF SOLAR SYSTEMS BY UP TO 20%, CITES VERTICAL INTEGRATION

  • "Tesla Energy announced today that they are reducing the prices of their solar power systems by $3,000 to $5,000 for the average homeowner. They cite improvements in ā€œvertical integrationā€ as the reason for the price cut." report Fred at Electrek: "The company says that the $3,000 to $5,000 price cut for an average customer represents a 10 to 15% price reduction of a whole residential solar installation. With solar, the scale is important and Tesla says that the price reduction will be felt more significantly for bigger installations, which will see the price drop by as much as 20%. As of last quarter, Tesla Energy is now mainly using its own ā€˜Tesla-brandedā€™ solar panels made at Gigafactory 2 for its projects in California. Furthermore, Tesla is also trying to combine its home solar installations with Powerwalls, its home energy storage device."

Ā

  • Tesla said: "As a result of the vertical integration of our solar products into Teslaā€™s retail stores and the increased efficiencies weā€™ve realized over the past year by closing more expensive sales channels like door-to-door sales, we are now able to reduce prices for our solar power systems. As a result of this pricing change, our average customer will see a savings of between $3,000 and $5,000. This change, along with our push to continue shortening the time between sale to installation, will accelerate the adoption of solar and the worldā€™s transition to sustainable energy.

Ā

Since most dealers today are not well educated in EVs and don't carry enough inventory, what would you choose: going to a dealer or using a service where an EV of your choice would be brought over to you for a test drive and you will be educated to make an informed decision, butā€¦for a fee?
