TESLA SUPERCHARGERS GET A THANKSGIVING WORKOUT
- "Thanksgiving is the busiest travel time in the US and it serves as a great stress test for electric vehicle charging architecture, like Tesla’s Supercharger network." reports Fred for Electrek: "Nico Wirz reported a long line of Model 3’s waiting for a spot at the Burbank Supercharger yesterday. On Tuesday, Kevin Sanchez reported 8 cars waiting to charge at the Culver City Supercharger, which is one of the bigger ones with 16 charge points. Northern California is also getting some significant traffic this week. The Concord Supercharger, which has 19 Superchargers, was also full on a few occasions this week. Tesla apparently took some precautions at high traffic stations by limiting the time you could charge to 40 minutes. Anticipating higher use this week, Tesla even had a mobile technician on site to help out any owner if they have issues."

ELON MUSK CONSIDERS MOVE TO MARS DESPITE 'GOOD CHANCE OF DEATH'
- There's a new ELon Musk interview which will be aired by the time you hear this, its Axios on HBO with Elon Musk. In a leaked quote he says "“I know exactly what to do, I’m talking about moving [to Mars]. We think you can come back but we’re not sure. Your probability of dying on Mars is much higher than on Earth. It’s gonna be hard. There’s a good chance of death, going in a little can through deep space.”
- As reported by today's Guardian: "The Axios website trailed the interview a day before the scheduled Mars landing of the Insight spacecraft. According to the Associated Press, the Nasa vehicle will use “a mechanical mole to tunnel 16ft deep to measure internal heat, and a seismometer to register quakes, meteorite strikes and anything else that might start the red planet shaking”.
- Should he succeed in landing on Mars, he expects to work “nonstop to build the base”. There will, he said, be “not much time for leisure. And even after doing all this, it’s a very harsh environment. So … there’s a good chance you die there. We think you can come back but we’re not sure. Now, does that sound like an escape hatch for rich people?” Musk also said he thought “the ad for going to Mars would be like Shackleton’s ad for going to the Antarctic”. While preparing for his expedition to the South Pole, which began in 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton is supposed to have placed an advertisement in the Times of London that read: “Men wanted for hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful, honour and recognition in case of success.”
NEW YORK SPURS EV SALES WITH FAST CHARGERS AND LOWER POWER RATES
- "New York has unveiled a string of programs that it hopes will incentivize EV purchases in the state. In addition to an existing Drive Clean Rebate knocking as much as $2,000 off EV purchases, the state is deploying as many as 200 150kW fast chargers in "more than two dozen" locations around major traffic corridors, JFK International Airport and five large cities outside of NYC (Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers)." reports Engadget: "The ultimate aim is to install "at least" 10,000 chargers of all types by the end of 2021. The state's Power Authority has already pinpointed 32 locations, in fact. However, fast chargers may be relatively scarce. The initiative aims for four fast EV chargers per location at intervals under 75 miles apart. JFK's quick-charge hub will offer just 10 stations, which suggests you could be waiting a while on a busy day."

PEP GUARDIOLA TRAVELS TO MAN CITY TRAINING IN £28,000 ELECTRIC NISSAN LEAF
- Footballers and managers tend to have a taste in exotic cars to turn up to the training ground. Not the manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola travels to Man City training in £28,000 electric Nissan Leaf. The £12million-a-year Man City boss car pools with “three to four” staff, but makes sure he rides shotgun. He has previously been seen in a £200,000 Bentley Flying Spur but uses the Leaf as it is provided by club sponsors.
- And by the way, looking at the pictures, it's a first gen LEAF too!

BENTLEY BOSS TALKS TO AUTO EXPRESS
- "Hallmark tells us that Bentley’s first fully electric vehicle will be with us by 2025 at the latest, but until then it’s about making every model available as a plug-in hybrid. He promises a decent range from the hybrids, though: “A 30-mile range plug-in hybrid is very transitional. But a 60- or 70-mile hybrid starts to get interesting. We want to create a package that works and gives real customer benefit.”
- Hall, ark said: “We could’ve done something off Porsche’s Mission E and it would’ve worked, but that’s not what I want from Bentley. So we want to wait until the battery technology works for the types of cars that we build. In the meantime we’ll go hybrid and performance hybrid. Mid 2020s is when we think the technology will meet the needs of the bigger cars we need to build.”
THE JAGUAR I-PACE IS THE 2018 PROFESSIONAL DRIVER CAR OF THE YEAR
- The all-electric Jaguar I-Pace has been judged to be Car of the Year for 2018 by readers of Professional Driver magazine. The I-Pace also won the Green Car of the Year category in the Awards.
- The Jaguar I-Pace is the “game changer” that could allow private hire and chauffeur operators to go all-electric, said Mark Bursa, editor of Professional Driver Magazine: “The I-Pace generated unprecedented levels of enthusiasm at or two-day judging event in September, and we knew we had our likely winner even before we’d added up the scores.”
- “We’ve never had a car in such demand for test drives, and we’ve never had quite such a torrent of positive feedback as we had for our 2018 Professional Driver Car of the Year. As one judge commented: ‘This could be the game-changer we’ve been waiting for.’
