Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 23rd December 2018. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through EV story today so you don’t have to.

Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.

TESLA PULL OUT ALL STOP FOR YEAR END DELIVERY

  • "Tesla production should have all mid-range Model 3 orders delivered by year end, although "it will be tight," Tesla CEO Elon Musk said via Twitter Saturday. The company has released all cars for sale where original customers can’t take the delivery before December, Musk said." reports Bloomberg: "If someone’s order does not make it in time, Tesla will cover the tax credit difference if the company committed delivery and the customer made "good faith" efforts to receive it before the end of the year, Musk said in separate tweet while responding to a user."

  • Elon tweeted: "Tesla has released all cars for sale where original customer can’t take delivery before year end, as well as test drive / display cars, which cost less. Reminder to US buyers that $7500 tax credit drops in half in 8 days. Order online at http://Tesla.com or visit stores."

FRENCH TOWN, HOME TO MAJOR AUTO FACTORY, GETS CAUGHT UP IN NISSAN-RENAULT SPAT

  • "In the wake of a lengthy investigation by Nissan, executives in Asia removed Ghosn from his posts, while the European side kept him in place, arguing he should be presumed innocent until proven otherwise. The shareholding agreement gives Renault a 43 percent stake in Nissan, while Nissan holds 15 percent of Renault, with no voting rights. The agreement also stipulates that Renault’s CEO heads the alliance. When the alliance began in 1999, Renault was about the same size but in much better shape financially than Nissan, which was on the verge of collapse. Fast forward two decades, and Nissan overshadows its French partner with almost twice the revenue and a larger profit contribution." according to Japan Times: "Nissan does rely on Renault, too, for better access to the vast European market. Renault makes engines for Nissan in Cleons in northern France, and the Nissan-badged vans sold in the region are Renault under the hood."

GM BATTERY FACILITY DISCHARGE SUGGESTS NO IMMEDIATE SUCCESSOR FOR CHEVY VOLT

  • Green Car Reports has bad news for Volt fans: "Will the Chevrolet Volt get an immediate successor, or will any other model soon carry on with the potential of its brilliant Voltec plug-in hybrid system? Considering what General Motors announced yesterday, both of those possibilities are now looking less likely. GM said that it will cut 50 jobs at the Brownstown facility that assembled battery packs for the Volt, as well as a few other models, including the Buick LaCrosse and its eAssist system."

E.GO PLANS TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO EV STARTUP HAS GONE BEFORE

  • "Tiny e.GO Mobile — an electric car startup based in Aachen, Germany — says delivery of its Life no-frills EV will begin in April. By 2022, it plans to be selling 100,000 of the cars a year." says Steve hanley for CleanTechnica: "The Life looks like a squished down version of the Kia Soul. The car will have a range of 75 to 114 miles, a top speed of 72 to 94 miles per hour, and be priced between $18,000 and $22,500. Definitely an entry-level car at an entry-level price. To keep costs down, e.GO sources as many parts off the shelf as possible. The drivetrain comes from Bosch and the tail lights were originally made for trucks. Founder and CEO Guenther Schuh tells Bloomberg he expects his new company to have a positive cash flow beginning next year and to become profitable by 2021, something it took Tesla nearly a decade to accomplish."
