Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 12th January 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I can find today, and picked out the ones I think you need to know about.

Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.

MODEL 3S HEADING FOR EUROPE

  • Walter MacVane @EcoHeliGuy "Glovis Captain has started being moved by Tugs for Panama Canal 🇵🇦. Time to bring some Model 3’s to Europe."
  • The ship which was built in 2015 can carry just over 6,000 cars.

JLR CUTS 4,500 JOBS ON CHINESE SLOWDOWN, DIESEL DEMONIZATION

  • "Jaguar Land Rover is set to cut around 10 percent of its workforce due to slowing demand in China and a drop in diesel sales in Europe, according to media reports." according to James Fossdyke for Motor1.com: "The BBC says the Coventry-based manufacturer will cut around 4,500 of its 42,500 staff, although the company is thought to be targeting managerial and marketing roles, rather than jobs on the shop floor. The company, which is owned by Indian firm Tata and is commonly known by the acronym JLR, is Britain’s largest car maker, but global sales took a tumble last year. The firm has invested heavily in diesel engines, which form the backbone of the lineup for many of the company’s products, just as demand for the fuel is slowing. In the U.K. alone, the number of new diesel cars registered fell by almost 30 percent in 2018."

JAGUAR CLOSES YEAR 2018 WITH ALMOST 7,000 I-PACE SALES

  • "Jaguar sold about 2,230 I-PACE electric cars in December, which brings a meaningless increase from 2,195 in November, and maybe is an early indication of current production capabilities." writes Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "Total result for the year 2018 is 6,893. It’s just the beginning so we would like to stay optimistic about 2019, which should bring no less than 30,000 per year (assuming production rate from December)."

AUDI E-TRON ELECTRIC SUV BUYERS CAN LEAVE THE CHARGER INSTALLATION TO AMAZON

  • "Given how often automakers expect electric-car drivers to charge at home—80 to 90 percent of the time, by most estimates—it’s surprising that more attention isn’t paid to making sure that those drivers can get the most out of home charging. At an Amazon and Audi Charging Solutions page, drivers and shoppers can see three levels of home charging for the e-tron: Standard, Better, and Best. Through the Audi program there are two chargers: a 32-amp ChargePoint Home, or a JuiceBox Pro offered in 40-amp or 32-amp versions. Both offer voice control via Amazon Alexa and are UL-listed and Energy Star Certified."

THE MAYOR OF GUILDFORD ON EV BUSES

  • On twitter: "Just love spreading good news this morning we launched a first in both Guildford and the South of England 9 totally Electric Buses, the first town in the country to employ Electric Buses dedicated to Park & Ride great to lead the way in this technology go Guildford"
  • Marcel Ward adds: "I saw three of these at Guildford bus station this evening on various routes (not all park & ride)! Talked to one of the drivers and he said they go all day and charge overnight at the depot. Excited the future has come to my town!"

GM SAYS HYBRIDS ARE OVER, REBOOTS CADILLAC AS AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE LEADER

  • "General Motors essentially put a fork in hybrids on Friday and announced that Cadillac will lead its upcoming electric vehicle charge in the United States." reports Fox News: "GM President Mark Reuss revealed the first information about the company’s third-generation battery-electric platform, which will launch with a new Cadillac model that will be the first of many. He described it as being able to accommodate front-, rear- or all-wheel-drive and a variety of battery sizes using an “ice cube tray” design that allows for a different number of cells to be installed, depending on a particular model’s requirements. Answering an analyst’s question about the future of hybrids in the company’s lineup, Reuss called them a countermeasure to the internal combustion engine and said that resources would be redirected toward fully-electric cars, instead."
