Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 19th February 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.

Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.

VOLKSWAGEN ID. WILL BE A PIONEER OF SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY

  • VW says: "For the ID., Volkswagen has focused the entire value chain on the goal of avoiding and reducing CO2 emission. The battery cells will be produced in Europe, the energy will come from green power sources. More savings potential in the supply chain that extends all the way back to raw material production is being examined with the help of direct and indirect suppliers. The plant in Zwickau is already using externally produced power from renewable sources. Unavoidable emissions in the manufacturing process are offset by investments in certified climate projects. As a result, the ID. will be manufactured CO2 neutral right from the start."
  • "For charging, Volkswagen recommends the use of energy from renewable sources like wind power and hydro-power. The new Volkswagen subsidiary Elli has recently begun to offer regeneratively produced electricity called Volkswagen Naturstrom®. The IONITY fast-charging network created by Volkswagen and other car manufacturers will offer green power at about 400 charging locations on European motorways – wherever available."

JAGUAR STARTS OFFERING 0% FINANCING ON I-PACE TO BOOST EV SALES

  • "The sales of the Jaguar I-Pace, the British automaker’s first all-electric vehicle, haven’t been strong in the US, but the automaker is now offering 0% financing on the I-Pace as a special limited offer to boost sales of the all-electric vehicle." says Fred at Electrek: "Last year, Jaguar delivered about 6,500 I-Pace SUVs in Europe during the first 9 months of sales of the all-electric vehicle. In the US, the vehicle only had a few months of sales in 2018 and Jaguar delivered about 400 units. 2019 started very slow for the I-Pace with only just over 1,000 sales globally."

  • Jaguar said: "“All new 2019 Jaguar I-PACE models eligible for financing at the APR shown for well-qualified buyers as determined by approved lender. Payments per month per $1,000 financed, regardless of amount of down payment, can be as low as $16.67 at 0% for 60 months. All amounts shown are estimates. Retailer sets actual amounts. Supplies are limited. Taxes, title, license and fees excluded. Residency restrictions apply. Customer must take new vehicle delivery from retailer stock by 4/1/2019.”"

MODEL 3 UPDATE

  • "Spotted one of the first Model 3 Performance in Oslo, Norway"
  • "The firsts Model 3 are available in Italy"

  • "Tesla Model 3 is on its way of becoming the next major disruptor in the automotive industry in Europe as everyone lost the count of ships delivering these compact electric sedans from the United States. Watching truckloads of Tesla Model 3 being delivered to different cities of Europe has now become a daily phenomenon for many as Tesla is working tirelessly on the delivery plan." writes XAutoWorld: "Tesla is currently only offering the Long-Range Dual Motor and Dual-Motor Performance versions of the Model 3 in Europe, which are the top tier variants of the car, the next more affordable Mid-Range variant is still not available in the region, still, the number of deliveries is impressive."

  • CleanTechnica says: "As it stands, customers have taken delivery in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, and Austria. The floodgates are opening much faster in Western Europe than we saw in the United States, however, as Tesla is on a warpath to get the cars off of the ships and into the hands of as many of customers as possible as fast as possible."

ABT VW E-TRANSPORTER TUNED ELECTRIC VAN REVEALED

  • "ABT Sportsline, as the world’s largest tuner for vehicles of the Volkswagen Group (especially Audi), through its ABT e-Line subsidiary, is introducing a very special version of the Volkswagen Transporter – the ABT e-Transporter, which will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show." according to InsideEVs: "ABT offers the e-Transporter with a single (37.3 kWh) or double battery (74.6 kWh) in commercial or passenger version. The bigger battery version seems reasonable, but the 400 km (250 miles) of NEDC range will be difficult to achieve in normal conditions."

HONDA TRADEMARKS “HONDA E” FOR POSSIBLE ELECTRIC CAR BRAND

  • "Honda has recently filed trademark applications (in Switzerland and the European Union) for the name Honda e, in a category reserved for vehicles, according to HybridCars.com." says mark Kane for InsideEVs: "The new name Honda e suggests that the Japanese manufacturer is preparing a new electric sub-brand or at least it will be the name of a new model. We bet more likely on sub-brand, as many automakers around the world already adopted a similar system like Audi x e-tron, BMW ix, Mercedes-Benz EQx, etc."

HONDA TO LEAVE UK

  • Meanwhile The Guardian today one of the many outlets reporting on his story: "Honda is planning to close its factory in Swindon, dealing what trade unions called a “shattering body blow” to the UK automotive sector, which is already wrestling with the effects of Brexit-related uncertainty. The Japanese carmaker is expected to announce as early as Tuesday that it is planning to shut its Swindon plant in 2022, in a move that would put 3,500 jobs at its only European production site at risk and threaten many more in its supply chain."
