Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 22nd February 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
Long time supporter BARRY PENISTON has gone increased to EXECUTIVE PRODUCER level. New EXECUTIVE RODUCER ENRICO STEPHAN-SCHILOW.
NISSAN LEAF IS WORLD’S # 1 SELLING EV, BUT #2 MIGHT SURPRISE YOU
- "The Nissan LEAF is (and will remain for quite some time) the best-selling plug-in electric car with more than 360,000 units worldwide, according to data released by Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg." writes Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "The second best-selling model globally is Tesla Model S with more than 240,000, followed by another BEV – the BAIC EC-Series – with over 170,000 sales. The results are similar, although the numbers are slightly different, compared to EV Sales Blog report."

GEELY TO LAUNCH NEW EMGRAND GSE BEV WITH MORE RANGE
- Staying with InsideEVs: "The Emgrand GSe is an all-electric SUV that was launched by Chinese automaker Geely in June 2018. Compared with the outgoing Emgrand GSe, the combined range of the new model will be increased to 450km from 353km. Besides, the maximum power and peak torque of the new SUV’s electric motor will be upgraded to 130kW/270N·m from 120kW/250 N·m. The acceleration time from 0-100km/h is expected to be further shortened from the current 9.9 seconds."

AUDI BUILDING EUROPE’S LARGEST PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM AT ITS HUNGARY PLANT
- Together with E.ON, Audi is building a solar energy park on the roofs of the two logistics centers of its plant in Győr covering about 160,000 square meters.
- This will create Europe’s largest photovoltaic system installed on a building at the Audi Hungarian plant in Győr. It will have a peak output of 12 megawatts. Construction work will start in August 2019 and renewable energy generation will start at the beginning of next year.
APPLE 'PROJECT TITAN' VEHICLE COULD TURN OUT TO BE AN ELECTRIC VAN
- "Speculation and rumors over the years has suggested Apple has worked on producing its own self-designed vehicle, sometimes referred to as an "Apple Car." So far, all of the rumors and reporting reference it being a car of some description, but there is the possibility it could be something else. according to Apple Insider: "According to multiple unnamed sources of Manager Magazin, prototypes of Apple's work have been seen painted in black and silver. While few details are provided by the publication about the vehicles, the main highlight is that vans are being tested, rather than cars. The report also claims Apple's engineers are now working on the interior of the vehicle. The "Apple Car," thought by some to be arriving between 2023 and 2025 at the earliest, has undergone development at Apple in a variety of different ways under the name "Project Titan." Originally working on an entire vehicle, the project changed its focus towards self-driving vehicle systems, though there are some signs it is shifting back towards overall vehicular design."
DELIVERIES OF KIA E-NIRO DELAYED DUE TO SHORTAGES
- From the Industry news source Electrive: "Buyers of the Kia Niro EV in Europe must be patient as they are currently looking at delivery times of over a year. Thus states a letter to dealers in which Kia explains that “Europe-wide demand clearly exceeds expectations and current battery production capacity” writes Chris Randall: "The letter to dealers was made available to electrive. In the letter, Kia further states that the delay applies both to new orders of their electric car and to already concluded orders for the e-Niro. Accordingly, it is recommended for dealers to adjust the generally communicated delivery forecast from “6 months from order” to “at least 12 months from order”. According to the document, vehicles that were advertised for delivery in spring 2019 will not be available until significantly later."

KIA TEASES NEW ELECTRIC CONCEPT AHEAD OF GENEVA MOTOR SHOW
- "Kia wants to show what the future of its electrified car range looks like with a new concept that will debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Though there are no details on the car so far, aside from this lone teaser image released Thursday, it sounds like the concept will have a more exciting design than Kia's current electric cars."

MODEL 3 GET ACKNOWLEDGED BY US AUTO DEALERSHIP EXEC
- "The president of Sonic Automotive Inc., a prominent auto dealership in the United States, recently acknowledged Tesla’s disruption of the country’s car industry as a reason behind headwinds faced by the network in the past quarter." says Simon at Teslarati: "While answering inquiries during Sonic’s Q4 2018 earnings call, Jeff Dyke, the company’s president, noted that Tesla and the rise of the Model 3 played a role in the weakening sales of brands such as BMW, especially in areas such as California."

ANALYST DOUBTS MUSK
- "At least one auto industry analyst is skeptical about Tesla CEO Elon Musk's bold claim that the electric car maker will have all the features necessary for full autonomy by the end of the year." reports CNBC "In fact Musk may be misleading the public over how capable Tesla's cars are, said Karl Brauer, executive publisher at Cox Automotive."
TESLA POWERWALLS ARE IN HIGH DEMAND
- "Only 12 percent of solar installers carry Tesla’s Powerwall, according to the latest findings in a report from EnergySage and the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. " says GreenTEchMedia: "The report, a nationwide survey of U.S. solar installers, noted that one in three customers are now expressing interest in energy storage solutions for their home. Of that subset, installers reported that 56 percent of consumers ask for the Powerwall. A much smaller portion are actually getting the product, according to the survey’s results. For Tesla, the problem has largely been prioritizing its vehicle manufacturing, with a push to meet production targets on its Model 3."
