"Tesla has released new ‘Do It Yourself’ maintenance procedure instructions to help owners work on their own cars." according to Fred @ Electrek: "Over the last few years, Tesla has said that it’s working on opening up its service tools and helping owners repair their own cars, but we haven’t seen much evidence of that — though things have been slowly moving in the right direction.Last year, Tesla released the parts catalog for Model 3, Model S, Model X and Roadster to the public."

"Tesla owners who wish to perform basic procedures or maintenance on their vehicle can do so without having to schedule a Service appointment. Only perform a procedure if you feel comfortable doing so, and always follow all provided instructions.”

TESLA’S ADVANCED SUMMON UPDATE IS ALMOST READY FOR RELEASE, SAYS ELON MUSK

"Tesla’s remote control feature for car retrieval, known as Advanced Summon, is almost ready for release. In a recent update on Twitter, CEO Elon Musk noted both the impending timeline and that he was personally testing the self-driving feature over the weekend himself. Advanced Summon is a set of new features and capabilities that allow Tesla drivers to command their vehicles to drive to their location through the Tesla mobile app.' writes TEslarati today: "Earlier this month, Tesla released two Lane Departure Avoidance features that steer drivers back into their lane after drifting without a turn signal. The features are derived from Autopilot but don’t require it to be on in order to work."

HONDA AND GM JOIN IN SMART GRID AND ELECTRIC CAR RESEARCH

"Honda Motor and General Motors will join in a research project that could determine whether electric vehicles can be used to stabilize the supply of power in next-generation smart grids." according to Nikkei Asian Review: "The partners want to develop ways to facilitate the retrieval of information, such as data that is exchanged between power grids and electric vehicles. Down the road, EV owners could earn fees by storing power in car batteries and exchanging it with the grid. This could end up giving EV owners an advantage as their vehicles become revenue streams. Honda and GM already jointly develop EV batteries for the North American market. GM last year sold about 20,000 units of it's flagship EV Chevrolet Volt. Honda is scheduled to start selling EVs in Europe this year. The two companies are now bringing their expertise in battery charging and power control to next generation smart grids to promote EVs."

UK GOVERNMENT WILL NOT REINSTATE PHEV GRANT

"After the cuts to the subsidy programme had been announced last October, now Jesse Norman, minister of state for the department for transport has confirmed that the grant will not be reinstated." says the industry newsletter electrive: "The updated grants last year had ensured that only fully electric vehicles would qualify for the £3500 subsidy. Prior to that, the grants had ranged from £2500 to £4500 with regards to the vehicles electric range. The reasons for the update were not entirely clarified, but there are a few that may have led to the decision. Officially, the government said that the decision reflected the technological progression on the marketplace, as well as consumer demand:"

SONO MOTORS LOGS 10,000 PREORDERS FOR SION SOLAR EV

"Over a year before the vehicle’s production is scheduled to begin, German startup Sono Motors says it has received 10,000 preorders for its Sion SEV (solar electric vehicle). Most of the reservations have been made by private individuals, around 87 percent of them from Germany, Austria and Switzerland." according to Charged EV: "The Sion features a liquid-cooled 35 kWh battery, and a predicted range of 250 km (155 miles). It also offers bidirectional charging technology, which can be used to power electronic devices at up to 3.7 kW (11 kW using a Level 2 plug). Its most distinctive feature: 248 solar cells integrated into the body, which can top up the battery’s charge. According to Sono, in Germany up to 34 km of additional range per day can be generated purely by solar energy."

CHEVRON ADDS EVGO FAST CHARGERS AT FUEL STATIONS IN CALIFORNIA

"EVgo announced a new project with Chevron, which following with the times is now installing DC fast chargers at its gas stations in California. The first fast chargers were installed at the Menlo Park Chevron station (1399 Willow Rd, Menlo Park, CA 94025) and are now fully operational." says our friends at InsideEVs.com: ""Today, more than a dozen EVgo fast chargers – ranging from 50 kW to 100 kW capacity – are already operational or under construction at five Chevron stations to offer convenient charging to EV drivers.
