BMW AND JAGUAR LAND ROVER TO JOINTLY DEVELOP ELECTRIC CAR PARTS
- "BMW and Jaguar Land Rover on Wednesday said they will jointly develop electric motors, transmissions and power electronics, unveiling yet another industry alliance designed to lower the costs of developing electric cars." reports Reuters today: "Both carmakers are under pressure to roll out zero-emission vehicles to meet stringent anti-pollution rules, but have struggled to maintain profit margins faced with the rising costs of making electric, connected and autonomous cars. BMW and Jaguar Land Rover said they will save costs through shared development, production planning and joint purchasing of electric car components. Both companies will produce electric drivetrains in their own manufacturing facilities, BMW said."
- BMW board member Klaus Froehlich: “Together, we have the opportunity to cater more effectively for customer needs by shortening development time and bringing vehicles and state-of-the-art technologies more rapidly to market"
- Nick Rogers, Jaguar Land Rover’s engineering director said, “We’ve proven we can build world beating electric cars but now we need to scale the technology to support the next generation of Jaguar and Land Rover products.”
VOLKSWAGEN SAYS SORRY FOR DIESELGATE, SEEKS CLOSURE IN NEW EV AD
- "Volkswagen wants to put Dieselgate behind it. In doing so, the company today released a TV ad entitled "Hello Light," which hopes to convince consumers to overlook its past and embrace an electrified future – all to the tune of the Simon and Garfunkel hit song, the Sound of Silence." writes Motor1: "The one-minute, 45-second ad (which airs tonight during game three of the NBA Finals) shows the battery-powered I.D. Buzz concept we drove in 2017. The spot, VW promises, is part of larger plan to reinvent the brand in the U.S., guaranteeing "new ethics and compliance programs with real teeth," as well as "aggressively investing in electric vehicle development and production" in the wake of scandal."

HONDA E AND 2019 NSX TO MAKE UK DEBUT AT GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED
- The Honda e and the 2019 NSX are set to make their UK debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. With the UK’s largest motoring garden party set to kick off in a month’s time, both cars will be on static display on the stand with the recently named and highly anticipated Honda e also making its UK dynamic debut up the famous hill climb.
- With the mass production version of the Honda e set to be unveiled later this year, both Honda e models on the hill and on the stand will be un-camouflaged prototypes that are approximately 95% true to the mass production version.
KYOCERA AND BYD JAPAN PARTNER
- Kyocera Corporation and BYD Japan Co., the Japanese arm of China’s BYD Co. Ltd. announced a joint project to develop an integrated renewable supply-demand energy system for EVs.
- By combining renewable energy from Kyocera’s solar power generating systems and BYD’s electric buses, the collaboration will maximize the effectiveness of renewable energy, greatly reduce power losses, and maintain a stable supply-demand energy balance.
AUDI E-TRON SALES SOAR TO NEW HIGH IN U.S. IN MAY 2019
- "In May Audi noted 856 sales of e-tron in the U.S., which is quite significant for the first full month of deliveries (253 sales in April), especially compared to 1,375 Tesla Model X." according to the InsideEVs Sales Scorecard: "As Audi's overall sales volume decreased by 2.2% year-over-year to 18,892, e-tron accounts for a noticeable 4.5% share. By the way, there is no more support from the outgoing plug-in hybrid Audi A3 Sportback e-tron. We can also note that having an all-new electric model allowed Audi to escape from over a 6% decrease of sales in the past month."

HOME STATION FROM CLIPPER CREEK WILL CHARGE TWO EVS
- "Clipper Creek, one of the longest-running names in vehicle charging solutions, has come up with a new charging station that will also families to buy a second electric car without needing to buy a second unit." says Green Car Reports: "The company introduced the HCS-D40 dual wall charging station earlier this month. It comes with two J1772 cables so owners of two electric cars can plug them both in at the same time."

PORSCHE TAYCAN WILL DRIVE LIKE A 911, FEWER THAN 10,000 UNITS THIS YEAR, SAYS CEO
- "Porsche CEO Oliver Blume says that the Taycan, the German automaker’s first all-electric car, will “drive like the 911”. Blume also revealed a few more details about the Taycan in a new interview." reports Fred Lambert at Electrek. The translation says he said: "“I have absolute respect for the courage of Elon Musk and also for his innovation and pioneering spirit. I like that. The pioneering spirit is a characteristic that also shapes us at Porsche. However, Tesla has taken a different approach in many places. When we set up a new Porsche, we always set the standard for ourselves: the Taycan has to drive like the 911.”"
