BMW LAUNCHES THE NEW X5 XDRIVE45E
With the market launch of the new BMW X5 xDrive45e, the drive portfolio of the Sporty Activity Vehicle (SAV) is now being expanded to include a plug-hybrid system. The second generation of the BMW X5 with electrified drive combines a model-specific in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the very latest BMW eDrive technology.
With an electrically powered range of 67 to 87 kilometres in the new WLTP test cycle.
The combustion engine and electric motor deliver their power to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission of the latest generation and the intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive. In this way, the drive torque is transferred to all four wheels when driving on electric power alone as well as when using the combustion engine or indeed both drive units.
Money-saving: Electric driving in urban areas is cheaper than using petrol or diesel if the plug-in hybrid vehicle is charged at home or at the workplace at low cost.
Braking is winning: The battery is charged under braking. In conventional vehicles, braking generates only heat and brake dust.
The best of both worlds: Plug-in hybrids provide electric driving pleasure in urban areas and classical BMW driving pleasure over longer distances.
Better quality of life in cities: By driving on electric power, users can actively contribute to reducing emissions and traffic noise in cities.
PEUGEOT 3008 HYBRID4 DETAILS ANNOUNCED
"Peugeot has revealed details of its forthcoming plug-in hybrid - the 3008 GT Hybrid4 - which will feature a range of up to 36 miles on a single charge." reports Chris for Next Green Car:"The new SUV features a 13.2 kWh battery, powering two electric motors, which combine with a 200hp 1.6-litre petrol engine to produce 300hp (220kW). As such, the 0-60mph time is just 5.9 seconds, thanks in part to the all-wheel drive system and eight-speed EAT8 automatic transmission."

TOYOTA RAV4 PLUG-IN HYBRID CAUGHT TESTING AND TOWING BY SPY PHOTOGRAPHERS
"T add Toyota may be planning to soon add a plug-in hybrid version of the new RAV4. Spy photographers for our sister site, MotorAuthority, recently caught a plug-in hybrid version of the RAV4 out testing on public roads overseas. The company has long been a laggard in the movement to sell plug-in vehicles. The only plug-in model it currently sells in the U.S. is the Prius Prime with 25 miles of electric range." according to Green Car Reports: "If the plug-in hybrid uses the same 8.8-kilowatt-hour battery as the Prius Prime, it would likely get far short of the Prius Prime's 25-mile electric range. Although there might be more packaging potential for fitting a larger battery under the floor of the tall crossover. The closest competitors to the RAV4 today are the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which has a 22-mile electric range, and the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid, which is rated at 26 miles."
TESLA ROLLS OUT KEY FOB SECURITY UPDATE FOR MODEL S TO ADDRESS RISKS OF CLONING
"Last year, a Tesla Model S key fob was hacked by a team led by Lennert Wouters of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium (KU Leuven). In the most recent example of their dedication to security, a Bug Bounty find from April this year is now being patched via an over-the-air (OTA) update in 2019.32. The security flaw enabled would-be car thieves to clone a fob in less than two seconds, after which the vehicle could be driven off. Tesla subsequently offered a multi-part fix: PIN to Drive, a software update, and a new fob." Says Teslarati.
“We’ve begun to release an over-the-air software update (part of 2019.32) that addresses this researcher’s findings and allows certain Model S owners to update their key fobs inside their car in less than two minutes. We believe that neither of these options would be possible for any other automaker to release to existing owners, given our unique ability to roll out over-the-air updates that improve the functionality and security of our cars and key fobs,” Tesla said in a statement to Wired.

TESLA SECURES EXEMPTION FROM 10% CHINESE AUTO TAX AFTER MUSK'S VISIT
"Tesla CEO Elon Musk just returned from a multi-day trip to China. According to Bloomberg, the CEO struck a deal that will make Tesla exempt from China's 10-percent automotive sales tax." according to sources at InsideEVs: "Traditionally, China's domestic automakers are able to get such a tax exemption, but foreign automakers haven't been so lucky. Essentially, moving forward, all Tesla vehicles sold in China will qualify for the exemption. It's important to note that the country's ministry has verified this information on its website, though Tesla has yet to comment on the situation. "

TESLA TO UNLOCK EXTRA RANGE AND FREE SUPERCHARGING FOR CARS IN HURRICANE DORIAN’S PATH
"As gas stations in Florida ran out of fuel due to long lines of car owners rushing in to fill up their vehicles before Hurricane Dorian makes landfall, Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla will offer free Supercharging services and unlock more range for vehicles that are on Dorian’s path. By doing so, Tesla will be able to provide some help to owners who are traveling to escape the upcoming storm." writes Simon at Teslarati: "Amidst Florida’s preparations, a number of gas stations across the state have started experiencing shortages as residents flocked to fill up their vehicles. Images and videos from social media show long lines of vehicles lining up to get gas, as well as stations running out of petrol to sell. Gas shortages have hit West Palm Beach the hardest, with 50% of the stations in the area running out of fuel as of 9 a.m. Friday."

PURCHASE OF 125 NEW ELECTRIC TAXIS WORTH OVER £7MILLION
Sherbet London today announced the purchase of 125 new electric taxis from the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC). The first 50 cabs, all manufactured in the UK were delivered earlier in August, with the remaining 75 entering service in the next few months. This takes the size of Sherbet’s fleet up to 225 taxis, and is another step towards the aim of expanding its fleet to over 1,000 vehicles over the next three years.
