Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 15th October 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
HARLEY-DAVIDSON HALTS PRODUCTION OF NEW ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES
"Harley-Davidson has halted production and deliveries of its new LiveWire electric motorcycle after reportedly discovering a problem with its charging mechanism." reports CNBC: "The company didn’t provide more details on the “non-standard condition” that was holding up production. But the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, said the company told dealers last week it was stopping production to test its charging mechanism."
In a statement to CNBC: “We recently discovered a non-standard condition during a final quality check; stopped production and deliveries; and began additional testing and analysis, which is progressing well, we are in close contact with our LiveWire dealers and customers and have assured them they can continue to ride LiveWire motorcycles. As usual, we’re keeping high quality as our top priority.”

TESLA ENDS SALE COMMISSION, INCREASES SALARIES
"Tesla is reversing most of its “online sales only” strategy launched earlier this year. The automaker is going to hire more sales and delivery staff, end sales commission for Tesla Advisers, and increase salaries and stock bonuses, according to sources familiar with the matter." says electrek: "Tesla is planning to open a new type of retail location called “Tesla Centers” to avoid dealership restrictions and increase deliveries. Furthermore, sources familiar with the matter told Electrek that Tesla communicated to employees that they plan to hire more sales and delivery people. They are also eliminating the commission structure, which was already revised down earlier this year. Sale advisers, who were the most affected by the reduction in compensation, are being told that they will get a 20% to 40% salary increase to compensate for the change."

UNITI ONE PRICED FROM £15,100
Uniti, Sweden’s ground-breaking mobility pioneer, has revealed the pricing and specification for its eagerly-awaited debut vehicle, the fully-electric Uniti One.
Designed in Sweden and engineered in the UK, the Uniti One has been created from the ground-up to be an urban electric vehicle: fully optimised for efficiency, sustainability and affordability, whilst maximising interior space for three adults. All of which has been achieved without sacrificing quality, comfort or real-world usability.
A direct benefit of the car’s ultra-compact footprint and light-weight construction, the Uniti One’s standard 12 kWh battery provides 150 km (93 miles) of range from a single charge, while the optional 24 kWh battery extends range to an impressive 300 km (186 miles). A hundred kilometres (62 miles) of range can be added in just ten minutes using a 50 kW CCS charger. The Uniti One’s class-leading 8.0 kWh/100km efficiency is achieved through a weight-saving ethos evident throughout the car. A combination of purposeful design engineering, appropriate use of materials and innovative manufacturing techniques give the Uniti One a kerb weight of just 600 kg.
Perfectly suited to the urban environment, the Uniti One accelerates from 0-50 km/h (0-31 mph) in 4.1 seconds and 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 9.9 seconds, before reaching its top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph), where permitted and conditions allow.
With prices starting from just £15,100 (after £3,500 UK Government subsidy).
APTERA CLAIMS THREE-WHEEL EV CAN RUN ON SOLAR ONLY WITH NO PLUGGING IN
A report today in Car & Driver: "Aptera, a once bankrupt startup that's raising money for a fresh start, is claiming its forthcoming electric three-wheeler can operate on solar power without ever plugging in to charge. Every hour it's parked in the sun generates five miles of range, so Aptera claims 44 miles of range in a day based on solar charging from the summer sun in San Diego. Users can still plug in the Aptera EV, which Aptera recently claimed will have a 1000-mile range between charges. The EV was designed with solar in mind, and it has more than 180 panels that are built into the car's composite structure. "

JOINT CALL ON EU TO PROVIDE FRAMEWORK FOR H2 INFRASTRUCTURE
"The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, Hydrogen Europe and the International Road Transport Union are jointly calling on European policymakers to ramp up investments in EU-wide hydrogen refuelling infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles." writes Nora at electrive: "The listed demands include revising the EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive to include mandatory targets for hydrogen. New financial instruments for such infrastructure investments, as well as tapping into existing EU funding mechanisms, are to help to accelerate the roll-out."

KARMA REVERO GT ENTERS PRODUCTION
"Last month, the Karma Revero GT entered initial production at the KICC in Moreno Valley, CA - the only car manufacturing site in Southern California. The new generation, with 61 miles (98 km) of all-electric range EPA range (expected), is a very exotic series-hybrid (with plug-in capability), now powered by the BMW i8's three-cylinder engine." according to InsideEVs.
28 kWh battery (instead 21.4 kWh)
expected 61 miles (98 km) of all-electric range EPA range (Revero 37 miles EPA)
up to 360 miles (579 km) of total range, including up to 80 miles (129 km) electric and up to 280 miles (451 km) with generator
0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) in 4.5 seconds (Revero 5.4 seconds)
1.5L BMW TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder in-line engine (same as in BMW i8) as onboard generator (previously 2L GM engine)
dual-motor rear-wheel drive (with torque vectoring for rear wheels)

EU: IONITY NOW RUNS OVER 150 HIGH POWER CHARGING SITES
"Ionity has now 151 high power charging sites up and running across Europe. At the end of May this year there were at 100 locations. By the end of 2020, the joint venture plans to have 400 HPC sites in operation." says electrive: " While Ionity delivers the installation, the company relies on site-owners and operators such as Circle K in Norway or Shell in the UK to realise the planned pan-European high power charging network."

MERCEDES-BENZ ARCTIC FOX
"Mercedes-Benz Vans and bodybuilder Kerstner developed the "Arctic Fox", which is based on the eVito and is a perfect eGrocery vehicle for urban areas. It has an electric drive and an electrically operated cooling system, so that food products can be delivered with zero local emissions. Its innovative feature is that the cooling system is connected to the vehicle electrical system, which minimises the need for additional batteries. In September, the ""Arctic Fox" demonstrated its suitability for everyday use in a four-week pilot project with online meal kit provider HelloFresh in Belgium. The "Arctic Fox" supported up to 50 deliveries per tour and was able to keep the temperature in the cargo area (chilled goods) reliably. Thus it fulfilled the urban delivery use case successfully. The aim is to extend the concept for zero local emissions delivery of temperature-sensitive products to other sectors and series in future."
