VOLKSWAGEN ID.3 PRODUCTION TO START IN A FEW DAYS ON NOVEMBER 4
Volkswagen to officially start production of its first ID. model, the Volkswagen ID.3, on November 4 at Zwickau plant in Germany. It will be a big day for Volkswagen, which has been converting the plant to accommodate EVs based on an all-new MEB platform since 2018." reports InsideEVs: "The German manufacturer promised that the Zwickau plant will be the biggest all-electric car factory in Europe with a target of 330,000 cars per year fust a few years from now. Six MEB-based models are expected by the end of 2021. The first ID.3 produced at the site will not be for sale as Volkswagen first will build demo fleet we guess. Customer deliveries are set to begin in mid-2020."

TESLA BOOSTS MODEL S AND MODEL X RANGE AHEAD OF UPCOMING OTA POWER UPGRADE
"Tesla has adjusted the listed range of its flagship Model S and Model X, listing the vehicles’ actual range on its design studio. With this change, the Model S Long Range is now listed with a range of 373 miles per charge and the Model X Long Range has been adjusted to 328 miles per charge. " reeports Teslarati. On the UK site I can see MOdel S Long Range is 379 miles, and Performance is 367 miles.
The article continues: "Tesla’s competitors, particularly the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron, are equipped with batteries that are only marginally smaller than those being used by the electric car maker. Yet, the range of the Taycan and the e-tron are still in the 200+ mile range. Tesla, on the other hand, is squeezing over 370 miles of range per charge from a 100 kWh battery pack."
Which reminds of a Top Gear video running the Model S Performance and Taycan Turbo S on the Autobahn, at their top speeds on the same stretch of road. They took the power consumption and worked out a theoretical maximum range if you did were at that speed. The Porsche 65 miles of range at top speed and the Model S 83 miles. There are too many holes in that to make it a apples-to-apples comparison but it is a bit of fun.

MERCEDES EQS SPIED TRYING TO CONCEAL ITS CURVES
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the brand's upcoming flagship electric vehicle, and these spy shots provide a great view of its current development. There's even a glimpse inside the cabin." reports Chris Bruce for Motor1: "In profile, the EQS has a sleek shape with an arching roofline. Pop-out door handles keep the flanks looking smooth. The model has a short rear, and this one still wears placeholder pieces for the taillights. Inside, there's a digital instrument cluster on a tablet-like display ahead of the driver. Mercedes keeps the center stack under a fabric cover, but the company's recent designs suggest there would be a large infotainment screen and possibly more monitors for showing the HVAC settings. The EQS will reportedly debut in 2020, likely in the latter half of the year. It will be a major part of Mercedes' 10-billion Euro ($11 billion at current exchange rates) investment into electrification."

TOP US PRIVATE COAL MINER MURRAY ENERGY FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY
"Murray Energy, the US largest privately owned coal producer led by outspoken Donald Trump ally Robert Murray, has filed for chapter 11 protection, as the fossil fuel’s role in the country’s energy mix continues to diminish." says Mining.com: "The Ohio-based miner, the eighth coal company to go under over the past year, said it had reached a restructuring agreement with lenders to restructure more than $2.7 billion of debt. US coal exports are estimated to have dropped to 20.9 million tonnes in the third quarter, according to the country’s Energy Information Administration (EIA). That represents a 28% fall compared to the same period in 2018."

THE ELECTRIC BUS BOOM IN WESTERN EUROPE
" 2019 may be remembered as the year when the electric bus sales volumes definitive ramp up. While in 2018 the European electric bus market increased of 48 per cent compared to 2017, in the first nine months of 2019 there has already been a + 100 per cent registrations." reports sustainable-bus.com: "The figures on alternative driveline buses show that registrations of hybrid buses are roughly constant from 2016 to the present day. Natural gas buses experienced a sudden growth in 2017, which, with 1,030 registrations, tripled the 2016 result. Fuel cell buses resulted to be a few units per year (1 in 2016, 4 in 2017, 0 in 2018, 1 in 2019 so far). On the other hand, the registrations of electric buses are growing steadily. As of 30 September 2019, 1,123 battery electric buses (trolleybuses included) have been registered. And there is room for further growth, as the last few months of the year are usually marked by a large number of registrations."

TESLA MODEL 3 BECOMES FIRST ELECTRIC CAR APPROVED AS NYC YELLOW CAB
"Tesla Model 3 has become the first all-electric car to be approved for use as an official New York City yellow cab, according to the list of approved vehicles." according to electrek: "Electrek reader Brent Caswell pointed out that the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission officially approved the Tesla Model 3 to become a NYC yellow cab Also, the Model 3 strangely doesn’t qualify for the alternative fuel medallion vehicle. It appears to be because the category was specifically created for hybrids and natural gas-powered vehicles and not all-electric vehicles. More people are starting to consider electric vehicles, and especially the Model 3, for commercial purposes like a taxi service. They are not only looking at the gas savings but also at the potential maintenance savings and longevity of the electric vehicles."
