Starlink Launches As Elon Musk Arrives In Berlin — For Gigafactory 4?

Here's the timeline of speculation!

@mortenlund89 Say hello to SpaceX'/Elon Musk's Gulfstream G650ER entering European airspace. Wonder what its business here is?

CleanTechnica said: "According to Elon, the announcement of Gigafactory 4’s location in Europe will come soon. Coming before the holiday season would be good for generous mainstream media coverage."

Well it wouldn't be long before Morten tweeted: "It's been confirmed by @elonmusk Tesla Gigafactory 4 is going to be located near the Berlin Brandenburg International Airport in Berlin, Germany"

A tweet from Matthias @auto_schmidt: "Musk reveals @tesla Europe Gigafactory to be located “in the Berlin area” while receiving an award in Berlin this evening Musk: "Located near the new airport. The new airport – running roughly 10 years behind schedule – is located to the south of the city.

From Teslarati: "In what could only be considered an unexpected win, the Tesla Model 3 was able to beat the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A3 as Germany’s Midsize Car of the Year at the Golden Steering Wheel Awards. The award was granted by auto publication AUTO BILD, whose event was graced by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Speaking about the results, a representative of the motoring publication noted that the Model 3 was well-liked by the awards’ judges partly because of its cool factor. Apart from this, the Model 3 was also lauded for being quick on its feet, well-equipped with features, and low cost of ownership.  With this in mind, the Tesla Model 3 became one of the biggest surprises for this year’s Golden Steering Wheel Awards, beating two of Germany’s most well-loved midsize sedans on their home turf. So strong was the positive reaction to the Tesla Model 3 that the vehicle actually earned some of the highest overall scores in this year’s competition."

And from Electrek: "During the Golden Wheel automotive award ceremony today, Elon Musk accepted an award for Tesla and announced that the automaker has chosen the “Berlin area” for Gigafactory 4. The CEO said that it will be “near the new Berlin airport,” and they are also planning a design and engineering center in Berlin. It is not entirely surprising, since Tesla has reportedly been looking at several specific sites across several German states, but Berlin was never mentioned, and they also considered other countries."

User CLK: "Was watching it live. The audience which included almost all other CEOs literally gasped when he announced Giga 4. Godspeed, Mr. Musk."

And as per The Verge: "In a recent earnings report, Tesla said the European Gigafactory would likely be operational by 2021. The company predicted it would be similar to the Shanghai facility as well, since it would be producing Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers. The new factory outside Berlin is not Tesla’s fourth overall; the company currently assembles all of its cars at a former Toyota plant in Fremont, California. It also operates a seat factory near the Fremont plant, and has been building another facility in Lathrop, California."

And from Tech Crunch: "“There’s not enough time tonight to tell all the details,” Musk said during an onstage interview with Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess. “But it’s in the Berlin area, and it’s near the new airport.”

Tesla is also going to create an engineering and design center in Berlin because “I think Berlin has some of the best art in the world,” Musk said. Diess thanked Musk while onstage for “pushing us” toward electrification. Diess later said that Musk and Telsa are demonstrating that moving toward electrification works. “I don’t think Germany is that far behind,” Musk said when asked about why German automakers were behind in electric vehicles. He later added that some of the best cars in the world are made in Germany. “Everyone knows that German engineering is outstanding and that’s part of the reason we’re locating our Gigafactory Europe in Germany,” Musk said."

* clearly some love between them

* herbert said they have a shared vision

* describes elon as a visionary

* elon is demonstrating that it works, it's fun, elon "is pulling us"

"when we started out at Tesla everyone thought we we fools, I thought we were fools too!"

Finally the latest tweet from Elon: "Will build batteries, powertrains & vehicles, starting with Model Y"
