AUDI INTRODUCES E-TRON SPORTBACK IN U.S., REVEALS PRICE AND RANGE
"Today, Audi officially announced the market launch of its second all-electric model in the U.S., the e-tron Sportback, which will join the e-tron SUV in Summer." says InsideEVs: "The main differentiating factor between the two is that the Sportback has a coupe design. Both are available only in 55 quattro version - with a 95 kWh battery (in Europe there is also a 71 kWh battery version named 50 quattro). It will start from $77,400 (MSRP), which is $2,600 (or a few percent) more than for the SUV ($74,800). After deducting $995 of DST and $7,500 of the federal tax credit, effectively the price will be $70,895. The German manufacturer announced also an estimated EPA range of 218 miles (351 km), a full 14 miles more than in the case of SUV (204 miles / 328 km), however, there is a catch. The 2020 e-tron Sportback gets a 95 kWh battery with a usable capacity of 86.5 kWh (91%), while the SUV was certified in 2019, having a lower usable capacity of the same battery. Audi has upgraded the e-tron SUV to 86.5 kWh usable too."
Expected EPA: 218 miles (351 km)
WLTP: 446 km (277.1 miles)
energy consumption of 21.9-26.0 kWh/100 km (62 mi) WLTP
95 kWh battery pack (86.5 kWh net usable); liquid cooled, nominal voltage of 396 V
0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.6 seconds (5.7 seconds in boost mode)
0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) in 5.5 seconds in boost mode
top speed of 200 km/h (124.3 mph)
dual motor all-wheel drive (one asynchronous electric motor per axle)
peak system output of 265 kW and 561 Nm (300 kW and 664 Nm in boost mode)
weight of 2,480 kg (3,150 kg gross weight limit)
AC charging via three-phase 11 kW on-board charger (22 kW option)
DC charging 0-80% in about half hour, at up to 150 kW, using CCS Combo standard
towing capacity up to 4,000 pounds when equipped with an available towing package

HOTTER VW ID MODEL SPOTTED WITH CROSSOVER COUPE-LIKE DESIGN, COULD BE A GTX VARIANT
"New spy shots of the ID.4 coupe crossover have emerged, giving us a better look at the electric SUV’s sportier variant. The model’s exact designation is unknown at the moment, with names like ID.4 Coupe, ID.4 GTX and ID.5 reportedly under consideration" reports CarScoops: "While nothing is official, previous reports have suggested the ID.4 will spawn a crossover coupe known as the ID.5. This prototype could be that model, but that’s just speculation at this point. Regardless, the ID.5 is slated to share powertrains with the ID.4 so we can expect a rear-wheel drive variant with 201 hp. There should also be an all-wheel drive model boasting two electric motors and a combined output of 302 hp.

TESLA DROPS MODEL 3 PRICES IN CHINA TO BENEFIT FROM EV SUBSIDIES
"Tesla wouldn't want to miss out on the Chinese government's generous incentives for what it calls a "new energy vehicle," so the electric carmaker made sure it will still qualify." says CNET: "As of Thursday, Tesla went ahead and cut prices to meet the price ceiling, Reuters reports. Prices dropped by 10% to 271,550 yuan, or about $38,000 at current exchange rates, for a Model 3 Standard Range, the automaker's Chinese website shows. This new price includes the government incentives. Just a couple weeks ago, buyers faced a price of 303,550 yuan for the same car. China now requires a sale price under 300,000 yuan to qualify for the incentives, a 10% cut from the previous regulations. Next year, the government will drop the price ceiling another 20% as it continues to end support for EV purchases."

ELON MUSK SAYS TESLA STOCK IS ‘TOO HIGH’—AND IT QUICKLY FALLS
"Launching a Friday morning tweet-tear, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote, “Tesla stock price is too high imo [in my opinion].” Ask, believe, receive: The electric-car maker’s stock price immediately began to dip, finishing the day down 10 percent." reports Wired: "It’s curious for any executive to say the company’s stock is too high. It’s especially curious for Musk—even though, in just the past 48 hours, the billionaire has tweeted (then deleted) an image of a cursing unicorn topped by American flags and a pledge to rid himself of nearly all material possessions. That’s because Musk has been sued by US securities regulators for posting about his business before. To settle that case, he agreed to have tweets about Tesla reviewed by the company’s lawyers."
Wired take a view on what it could mean for Elon: "Because Musk knows more about his company—material, nonpublic information—than its investors, it's possible the CEO is using Twitter to manipulate the price of Tesla stock and lead investors to buy or sell, says Stephen Diamond, a professor of corporate finance and securities regulation at the Santa Clara University School of Law. It’s a real problem for Musk if the tweet is misleading, he says, and could lead to more scrutiny from regulators. It’s an even real-er problem if the tweet can be linked with any sort of trading activity, including stock buybacks. Musk could be accused of insider trading."

NEW HONDA CANADA CEO DISMISSES ELECTRIC VEHICLES AS A ‘POLITICAL AGENDA’
"Newly appointed Honda Canada CEO Jean Marc Leclerc is not keen on electric vehicles. In an interview with the Windsor Star, he trots out all the typical anti-EV arguments: too expensive, not practical, money-losing, and no demand." according to electric: "Honda’s Canada chief’s primary arguments against EVs are that they are too expensive, and consumers don’t want them. He cites studies showing that Canadians are willing to pay $700 more to purchase an electric vehicle, but given the necessary investment, “the math doesn’t work.” General Motors this month announced that it will work with Honda to produce two next-generation EVs. Honda will develop the two models with unique interior and exterior designs. The Honda-badged EVs are expected to go on sale in the United States and Canada in the 2024 model year."
