Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 27th May 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
TESLA CUTS PRICES IN NORTH AMERICA AND CHINA
"Tesla has cut prices in North America on all of its cars except the Model Y by up to 6%. The delivery times for custom ordered Model 3’s has been reduced from 5–7 weeks to 3–5 weeks for the Standard Range Plus trim and 4–5 weeks for the other Model 3’s. Similarly, the custom order times for the Model X and S have shifted from 3–7 weeks to 4–6 weeks." says CleanTEchnica: "While the price cuts are desirable from a buyer’s standpoint and help Tesla advance its mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, they do show that Tesla’s demand for cars has been affected somewhat by the worldwide health crisis."
CNBC notes: "Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced earlier this month that the price of the company’s advanced driver assistance system, which Tesla markets as “FSD” or “full self-driving,” would increase this July by $1,000, with more increases in the future. During Tesla’s Q1 earnings call, executives also said Tesla would offer FSD as a subscription service. Musk said at that time, of the subscription option, “It will be probably toward the end of this year.”

TechCrunch said: "The base price of Model 3 standard range plus is now $37,990, a $2,000 reduction. But the biggest cuts were made to Tesla’s more expensive, luxury vehicles, the Model S sedan and the Model X SUV. The Model S long range plus now starts at $74,990, a decrease of $5,000. The more expensive Model S performance as well as the two Model X configurations also saw prices slashed by $5,000. The traditional big three U.S. automakers, Ford, GM and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, have turned to 0% financing rates as well as deferred or longer-term payment options."
"All the pricier trims are also cheaper than yesterday. For example, a Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive Model 3 with Long Range now costs $46,990, down from $48,990. And the Performance Model 3 costs $54,990, down from $56,990. Pricier Model S and Model X trims all got a $5,000 price reduction " repotrs Mashable: "It's worth noting that the cheapest Model 3 still costs $35,000, but that one's not listed on Tesla's website; you have to call Tesla or physically visit a Tesla store to get it. The price of Tesla's Model Y, for which the deliveries started in March, remained unchanged."

Tesla has also removed its mention of free Supercharging on new Model S and Model X orders.
ALL-ELECTRIC VOLVO XC40 RECHARGE NOW AVAILABLE FOR UK CUSTOMERS TO ORDER
The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric – Volvo’s first all-electric car – is now available for UK customers to order.
The first of five fully electric cars to be launched by the Swedish company over the next five years, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric P8 is capable of travelling more than 249 miles on a single charge.
The XC40 P8’s long range does not come at the expense of performance, with its twin electric motors producing 408hp to deliver a 0-62mph time of only 4.9 seconds.
The lack of an internal combustion engine frees up space for an additional 30-litre storage compartment or ‘frunk’ under the front bonnet, while the placement of the batteries under the centre of the car means space is not compromised elsewhere.
Initially offered in R-Design specification, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is available from £53,155, with UK deliveries expected to start in early 2021.
78kWh battery. fast charging up to 150kW. 1,500kg towing (towbar is £1,125).
Climate & Heated seats: 775
Driver assist: 1550
Power seats: 624
Parking cams: 575
Glass roof: 1000
Wireless phone charger: 175
Heat pump: 575
The heat pump acts primarily as a range extender that helps save battery power in the pure electric XC40 Recharge. When it’s cold outside, it transports thermal energy from either the ambient air or the battery and releases this energy to heat up the cabin. This transport of heat is provided by a compressor which consumes less energy compared to the car's standard electrical heater. And by also supporting the air conditioner to work more efficiently, the heat pump helps save electric energy at a temperature range from 0°C up to 25–30°C. The heat pump can also help warm or cool the battery to optimise performance and range during long trips or heavy loads.
TOYOTA REVEALS PROACE ELECTRIC
"Toyota officially introduces the all-electric PROACE Electric delivery van (hinted in 2019) in selected European markets. Reservations are already being accepted and the first units will be delivered in October 2020 (in the Netherlands, for example)." says INsdieEVs: "The Toyota PROACE Electric is basically a rebadged version of EV vans from PSA Group, based on the EMP2 multi-energy platform. The French group previously announced:
Peugeot e-Expert
Citroën ë-Jumpy (aka Citroën ë-Dispatch)
Opel Vivaro-e / Vauxhall Vivaro-e
The specification is basically the same, including two battery options:
50 kWh battery for WLTP range of 230 km
75 kWh battery for WLTP range of 330 km

BMW X2 XDRIVE25E SAC PHEV TO BE LAUNCHED JULY 2020
"BMW will launch the new X2 xDrive25e SAC (“Sport Activity Coupé”) PHEV, announced in January (earlier post), in Europe in July 2020 with pricing from €47,250 (US$51,800)." reports Green Car Congress: "The new BMW X2 xDrive25e features the fourth and latest generation of BMW eDrive technology developed for the plug-in hybrid models. An electric motor generating an output of 70 kW/95 hp and a high-voltage battery with a gross energy content of 10.0 kWh enable an all-electric range of up to 57 kilometers in the legal EU test cycle (35 miles). Together, the 3-cylinder combustion engine, which delivers torque to the front wheels, and the electric motor powering the rear wheels produce a system output of 162 kW/220 hp and create a hybrid all-wheel drive configuration. The new BMW X2 xDrive25e sprints from a standing start to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds."
HYUNDAI MOTOR GROUP TO GET ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERIES FROM LG CHEM
"Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai Motor and its sister company Kia Motors has picked LG Chem as one of the battery suppliers for its upcoming new electric vehicles, a group spokesman said on Wednesday." reports Reuters: "Details of the supply contract including the electric vehicle (EV) model and the full amount of the deal, which are yet to be decided, will be confidential, the spokesman said. LG Chem declined to comment. Hyundai Motor said last year it would launch 16 EV models by 2025 with an aim to boost EV sales to 560,000 by then."
AUDI E-TRON IS THE NEW KING OF NORWAY
"Norway remains one of the most fascinating auto markets in the world. With a 70% plug-in vehicle market share in the first 4 months of 2020, there is nothing that comes close to it. That isn’t an overnight figure either — the country has been far ahead of any other market in terms of plug-in vehicle market share for several years."That said, the market leader is now a vehicle that would typically be outside the price range of a working class family in other countries, but Norway is a rich country (very rich country) with adventurous terrain, so it makes a bit of sense. The Audi e-tron isn’t just first — it’s far ahead in the #1 spot so far this year." says CleanTechnica: "A German model that was in the #1 spot for many, many months, the Volkswagen e-Golf, is solidly in second at 6% market share. After that, you’ve got the Nissan LEAF, Hyundai Kona EV, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Tesla Model 3, Renault Zoe, BMW i3, and then a long tail of remaining PEVs. You also have a handful of plug-less vehicles scattered into the overall sales rankings (see charts below)."
