Show #820
Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 25th June 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
FORD MUSTANG MACH-E SEEN IN DETROIT
"A preproduction Ford Mustang Mach-E sits at a stoplight on fabled Woodward Avenue in metro Detroit. Notice how the grille shutters at the base of the front fascia are open, allowing airflow to the radiator and condenser" reports Jalopnik: "This makes sense, as it’s hot in Michigan, so I bet the driver has the air conditioning on. Plus, the heat, along with the transient stop-and-go driving on Woodward, could be a bit taxing on the batteries. Anyway, the Mach-E looks good! It definitely stands out in that Grabber Blue color."

OFFICIAL 2021 FORD MUSTANG MACH-E PRICE LIST WITH MSRP AND INVOICE
"While the order banks are now open for dealers and have been since Monday, they don't open for reservation holders until Friday, June 26, and unofficially it seems. Reports say the order banks will officially open accompanied by an email directly from Ford, on Tuesday, June 30. Now, Mach-E Forum has shared the Mustang Mach-E price list, complete with MSRP and dealer invoice with holdback." according to InsideEVs: " the base MSRP is listed at $43,895 plus a $1,100 destination and delivery fee. This is for the Standard Range rear-wheel-drive all-electric crossover. The range-topping First Edition is listed at $52,700."

ELECTRIFY AMERICA’S FIRST CROSS-COUNTRY EV CHARGING ROUTE IS COMPLETE
"Taking a cross-country roadtrip in your electric vehicle is a little more feasible thanks to Electrify America. Its first coast to coast EV fast charging route is now complete, and the company plans to have another route finished by September. The routes provide high-powered chargers to all EV brands, and on average, the stations are spaced about 70 miles apart, so EV owners can travel beyond a single charge without being stranded." writes Engadget: "The first route stretches over 2,700 miles from Washington DC to Los Angeles. It follows Interstates 15 and 70 and passes through 11 states. The second route will connect Jacksonville and San Diego. Electrify America already has routes along the East and West coasts, and with these new routes it will be even easier for EV owners to travel farther."

TESLA INCREASES MODEL S AND X SUPERCHARGING RATE TO 225 KW
"Tesla has increased the top Model S and X Supercharging rate to 225 kW through a software update, but it’s not clear which vehicles are going to be able to get the update." says electrek: "When Tesla launched Supercharger V3 last year, the automaker made it clear that only Model 3 would take full advantage of the new 250 kW charge rate. For Model S and Model X, Tesla said that an upgraded charge rate would be coming soon “through a software update” without specifying anything else. Later, Tesla updated the Model S and Model X charge rate to 200 kW. At this point, only very recent Model S and Model X vehicles seem to be getting the update."

VW PREMIERES TWO NEW EDITION ARTEON PHEVS
"VW has just presented the new edition of the Arteon and revealed a second version: the Arteon Shooting Brake. Both models are offered as plug-in hybrids for the first time." reports electrive: "In terms of drive systems, Volkswagen is merely announcing that both body versions will be offered with a plug-in hybrid for the first time. “With the long purely electric range many Arteon eHybrid and Arteon Shooting Brake eHybrid drivers will be able to cover their daily driving distances with zero emissions locally,” writes VW. This will be the 160 kW PHEV from the Passat GTE, not the PHEV versions of the Golf 8 with 150 or 180 kW presented as ‘eHybrid’."

HYUNDAI, KIA AND LG CHEM LAUNCH GLOBAL COMPETITION TO INVEST IN EV AND BATTERY START-UPS
With demand for EVs growing, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors Corporation, and LG Chem are jointly sponsoring the “EV & Battery Challenge” (EVBC), a global competition to identify up to 10 EV and battery start-ups for potential investment and collaboration. New Energy Nexus, the international start-up support organization, will manage and facilitate the competition.
The chosen start-ups will have the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with Hyundai, Kia, and LG Chem, to develop proof-of-concept projects while leveraging the sponsors’ technical expertise, resources and laboratories. The global competition offers start-ups the opportunity to showcase their respective innovative technologies and unique business models.
WORLD’S FIRST HIGH-POWER WIRELESS CHARGING FOR TAXIS USES JAGUAR I-PACE, IN OSLO
"In Oslo, Norway, Jaguar I-Pace taxis will be charged wirelessly, in small high-power increments throughout the day (and night). The project is being taken on by automaker Jaguar Land Rover and commercial wireless charging expert Momentum Dynamics, with help from charging operator Fortum Recharge and the taxi network Cabonline (NorgesTaxi AS)." according to Green Car Reports: "A team of engineers and technicians will fit Momentum Wireless high-power charging units to 25 Jaguar I-Pace electric SUVs to be used by the cab company, which is the largest taxi network in the Nordic countries. Through multiple charging plates set into a section of roadway near Oslo’s central train station used for the taxi queue, drivers can pull up to a painted line and, with the help of a guidance system in the vehicle, align with the charging plate at the bottom of the vehicle with the one in the roadway. Without the need to plug in, or do any kind of handshake from a phone or fob or the vehicle screen, the inductive charging system will deliver charge to the car at up to 50 kw in bursts of 6-8 minutes, which will give the driver enough time to drop off existing passengers and take on new ones."
POLESTAR 2 LEASE AND FINANCING DEALS COMPARED TO TESLA MODEL 3
"For comparison, you can lease a Tesla Model 3 for an estimated $371 per month for 36 months with $4,500 down. It covers 10,000 miles per year. This is for the Model 3 Standard Range Plus, which carries a starting price of $37,990. You can find this information on Tesla's website. The Polestar 2 costs over $20,000 more ($59,990). To lease it, you'll pay an estimated $649 per month for 36 months with $4,000 down, and you'll get 10,000 miles per year." says InsideEVs: "For comparison, if you were to choose the most expensive Model 3 Performance ($54,990), the 10,000-mile lease comes in at $620 per month, with $4,500 due at signing. If you'd rather finance, Polestar, like many other automakers, is currently offering 0% for 60 months. Tesla's current rate is 2.49%."

ABB SCORES MAJOR ORDER FROM GAC TOYOTA VIA CHARGEDOT
"ABB has received a major order for charging infrastructure worth around five million US dollars through the Chinese charging specialist Chargedot: The Chinese manufacturing joint venture GAC Toyota is ordering several thousand AC wall boxes." writes electrive: "The joint venture GAC Toyota Motor, founded in 2004 and based in Guangzhou, currently only offers combustion engines and hybrid models, but the electric version of the C-HR is to be launched on the market before the end of this year. The Chargedot wallboxes with 7 kW charging power are also intended for this purpose and will be specially tailored to the needs of GAC Toyota. ABB said in a press release that Chargedot wallboxes for home charging will be distributed to electric car buyers through GAC Toyota’s dealer network."
