VOLVO WILL TRIPLE EV OUTPUT AT BELGIUM PLANT
"Volvo Cars is boosting production of full-electric cars at its plant in Ghent, Belgium. The company is adding output of a second battery-powered car at the factory in addition to the full-electric XC40 Recharge compact SUV." says Automotive News Europe: "The new EV will use the same architecture as the XC40 Recharge. Volvo will provide more details on the model, which is expected to be called the C40, on March 2. Volvo plans to launch a new full-electric car every year until 2025, when it expects that half of its global sales will be battery-powered models. Volvo estimates output of full-electric cars at Ghent will triple from 2020 to 2022, at which time full-electric cars will account for about 60 percent of the plant's total production capacity."

FORD MUSTANG MACH-E HAS BETTER RESIDUAL VALUES THAN NAMESAKE PONY CAR
"The Ford Mustang Mach-E isn't everyone's cup of tea, but at least it has a better residual value than the Mustang pony car, the vehicle it got its name from. That's a revelation that CarsDirect has discovered through Ford's first-quarter lease residual guide. According to the website, the electric crossover will have a higher residual value than its gasoline-powered counterpart." according to Motor1: "Mustang Mach-E will have at least 56 percent residual value for the Select Standard Range (RWD), Select Standard Range (AWD), and GT Extended Range (AWD) trims. It will, however, have a whopping 58 percent residual value after the lease term for the California Route 1 Extended Range (RWD), Premium Extended Range (RWD), Premium Extended Range (AWD), and First Edition Extended Range (AWD) variants."

HYUNDAI WILL UNLEASH ITS ELECTRIC VELOSTER N RACE CAR AT DAYTONA
"Next Friday, in the run up to the Daytona 24 weekend, Hyundai’s Veloster N ETCR racer will take to the track for some exciting demonstration laps. This will be the first time that anyone outside of Hyundai will get to experience the quick acceleration of Hyundai’s 670 horsepower electric machine based on its quirky three-door sporty hatch." says Jalopnik: "The Veloster N ETCR will be running in the 2021 Pure ETCR championship, though this display indicates to me that Hyundai and IMSA are potentially working on an electric class for the Pilot Challenge series, or even a standalone support series. Hyundai will compete in the inaugural Pure ETCR series against other electric touring cars from Alfa Romeo, Cupra, and MG."

BP PULSE PARTNERS WITH JUMPTECH
"BP Pulse has signed a new contract with Jumptech to help grow electric vehicle (EV) charger installations. BP Pulse, the O&G major's emobility division, will use Jumptech’s platform to streamline the installation of chargers by simplifying processes and improving information flows, it said." according to Current News: "Jumpech’s platform is designed to allow customers to easily supply information about their property and the desired installation for home charging applications, including imagery. This then gets sent to BP Pulse’s team of advisors, enabling them to process the application. The company is planning to expand its public charge point portfolio from 7,000 today to 16,000 by 2030. This will include 1,400 ultra-fast chargers."
EDF AND VOLKSWAGEN PARTNER ON E-MOBILITY IN FRANCE
"EDF’s renewable energy offerings will be recommended to buyers of Volkswagen Group electric vehicles (EVs) in France. Under the agreement, buyers of EVs from any of the Volkswagen Group’s brands will be advised of EDF’s regional green electricity offerings either via the internet or through the sales networks." says Smart Energy: "The offer also supports the Volkswagen Group’s zero-emissions strategy for 2050. The Group intends to invest €33 billion ($39.9 billion) in e-mobility up to 2024 and plans up to 75 new EVs by 2029."
SIEMENS LAUNCHES 96% EFFICIENT SICHARGE D FAST CHARGER
"Siemens introduces a new Sicharge D fast charger, marketing it as one of the most efficient DC charger on the market. The rated efficiency is 95.5%, but at peak, it's 96%. The Sicharge D is modular and upgradable, with several power outputs - 160 kW, 180 kW, 240 kW and 300 kW. The cool thing about it is the dynamic power allocation between the two DC outputs (plus an optional AC output)." reports InsideEVs: "The Sicharge D can handle voltage from 150 V up to 1,000 V, which makes the charger suitable for the 800 V (nominal) battery systems. The maximum current output is 1,000 A."

I asked: what was the moment you realised you wanted to drive electric.
RAJEEV NARAYAN
For decades I have been interested in decarbonizing cars, and have been interested in Biofuels, hybrids, and eventually EVs as they started to become viable. In 2017 Hurricane Harvey disrupted gasoline supplies here in San Antonio, and I finally pulled the trigger on buying an EV with a Chevy Bolt. A short time later I discovered your wonderful show! Since then we now have 2 EVs and charge them with solar.

I first knew that I wanted to drive an EV in August 2012 when I test drove a Nissan Leaf. However, I did not buy the Nissan Leaf because it was going to be our new car and had to be able to handle our 400 mile round-trips that we made a couple times a month. Therefore I looked at the main two alternatives (in the US) the Chevrolet Volt and the Prius Plugin hybrid. The Chevrolet volt was just a little bit too small. However I will say that I loved the car. We settled on the Prius plug-in. I have had the car now for 8 1/2 years and I'm averaging 91 miles per gallon. The car got 12 miles on a charge when I purchased it now over eight years later it gets about 9 miles on a charge. The car has got 73,000 miles on it and not so much as a widget has been replaced. I do the routine maintenance at the dealership and that is all. My next car will be electric however, I'm kind of like you in that I am a value oriented individual and it's hard to get rid of a car that serves you well every day without so much as a hiccup and provides 90+ miles per gallon.

A: Within minutes of our first Zoe ZE40 test drive in early 2017. We bought a nearly new ZE40 soon afterwards, then another, and now we have a ZE50 on 2 year lease.

After taking a first drive in a LEAF. Also drove a MICRA, which was OK but not inspiring. What then remained was (a) getting wife's agreement (which proved surprisingly easy - once SHE had a quick drive) and (b) waiting for my choice of LEAF to arrive (some months).

Back in the 60s a retired neighbor had an electric golf/mail cart and use to take me to little league practice. I remember how quite it was and what a blast it was as we zipped along. Never forgot about those trips and what I know now was the EV grin on my face.

I knew I wanted to drive an EV since I saw Ed Begley Jr. driving around in one in the ‘90s. Totally geeked out on the technology.

I knew I wanted to drive and encourage everyone else to drive an EV when I was on a run. I was running down Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh in between classes, which just happened to be during rush hour traffic. Running along the road with all of the cars spewing garbage into the air that I was breathing. It made it very difficult to breathe without coughing. The final straw was when a diesel powered bus came by and bombarded me with its exhaust right in my face. That was the moment I realized how much better it would be if we electrified all of the vehicles on the road. That is when I decided to buy an EV and push for EV adoption in my area. I am now working for an electric utility and helping with our utility owned car charging stations and EV policies!

For me, it was the first time I drove a Model S, in early 2019 or maybe it was 2018.
I was raised around American muscle cars. The bigger, louder and stinkier the better. Then I drove the Model S. It wasn’t the strange, lame looking EV I’d seen before. Didn’t have ridiculous wheels, oh and it got up and took off like a rocket.
Suddenly everything gas powered after that seemed antiquated.
Now the only decision is which EV is right for us here in the States.

I've always been interested in EVs and green issues, probably from when I was at school in the early 90s I remember having lesson on Ozone damage, recycling and the environment and that stuck with me. The first time I got really interested in a real car was when I saw news reports on a Welsh EV prototype in the noughties. Nothing came of it but I kept an eye on EV development from that point. Then in 2013 I noticed a fancy black Tesla on the base I was working at and thought this is it, sadly I couldn't afford one until last month (well my partner afforded it), should have bought some tesla shares at that point and I could of retired! 🙂

Hi! Mark from maine, I used to be a pick up truck guy and I got in to EVs when Rivian launched the R1T several years ago. I have since lost interest in trucks and would like a model Y, out of my price range unfortunately, a lot closer to my budget than the Rivian though!

When a chap knocked on my door in 2014 and told me that if I had solar panels put on my roof, I would get unlimited free electricity... that was when I knew I was getting an EV. Being a “Mr Spreadsheet” I already knew that I was spending £1,450 per year on petrol in my Toyota Prius!

July 2019 I was considering whether to buy an EV next time I changed my car? So I visited the EV Experience Centre in Milton Keynes and test drove several different makes of EV and decided there and then that my next car would definitely be an EV.
Assuming the EV Experience Centre opens again after Covid. I would highly recommend it to prospective EV buyers who want to experience driving different makes of EV's. Finally in Oct 2020 I got rid of my ICE car and bought a Renault Zoe ZE50 which is an excellent car. All my friends and family regard me as 'an early adopter' But I guess most of your subscribers would regard me as a 'late adopter!'.

I first realised I could go EV when BMW announced the i3 with Range Extender - the only interesting EV available at that time. Before that I had bought the first Renault Twizy in the country new in May 2012 as a fun vehicle (so wasn't really "going" EV at that point) after visiting the Geneva Motor Show in 2011 just to drive one and pre-ordered it as soon as I got back! I ordered the i3 on launch day (+1), got it in March 2014, kept it for over 5 years and now have a Mini Electric, certainly my favourite car so far and enormous fun to drive too.

A few years ago we were visiting some friends ( remember when we were allowed to do that?!) who had recently bought a used Leaf, they gave us a test drive, we were immediately hooked and purchased our own used Leaf shortly after.

Is an electrical contractor in New York City we started the job to increase the capacity of incoming electrical service yo a house that did not seem to be necessary as nothing in sight needed it. It was further requested that a separate 100 amp single phase feed be placed in the garage which sparked my curiosity. When the job was almost finish and we still saw nothing that warranted this we asked the owner why and he was only too happy to give us to grand tour and take us for a ride in his brand new 2013 Tesla Model s..... And there the spell was cast I could think of nothing else until the moment I got my very own electric car....starting with a Leaf and now a Tesla.
