A quick preface, this podcast is being recorded a few days late as I had a winter virus which stopped me working. But for completeness, and for those who catch up weekly, a short podcast with the key headlines.

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 21st February. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.

TESLA MODEL Y STANDARD RANGE DELETED
Now you see it, now you don't! "Tesla has stopped taking orders for the cheapest version of the Model Y electric SUV and removed it from its online configurator just a month into launching the vehicle. The change comes amid broader pricing and configurator changes that are becoming hard to follow." says electrek: "Last month, Tesla launched a new Model Y Standard Range RWD with 244 miles of range. Along with the removal of the base version of the Model Y, Tesla also reduced the price of the Model Y Long Range AWD by $1,000 to $48,990."

EVGO-GM CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE EXPANSION IS UNDERWAY
"EVgo has shown a few photos of the construction of the first fast-charging station in partnership with General Motors, announced in Summer 2020. The site is located at Volusia Mall, near Daytona International Speedway in Florida, and as we can see, it will be equipped with multiple individual chargers." says InsideEVs: "According to the agreement, more than 2,700 fast chargers will be installed in the U.S. by 2025. That's about 675 stations (assuming 4 single-plug chargers per site on average)."
NORTHVOLT PLANS TO EXPAND GIGAFACTORY IN POLAND
"The Northvolt manufacturing facility in Gdansk should become Europe’s largest factory for energy storage solutions. The production is scheduled to begin in 2022 with an annual capacity of 5 GWh. The company wants to expand it to 12 GWh." according to PV Magazine: "In addition to the Swedish and Polish gigafactories, Volkswagen and Northvolt are planning a 50-50 joint venture to establish another 16 GWh battery cell factory, with Salzgitter in Lower Saxony,"##

EUROPE'S ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE MARKET SURGES
"IDTechEx expects electric motorcycle sales in Europe to grow at least 50% year-on-year in 2020, building on the momentum of recent years. This is driven by continued policy support from governments alongside start-ups and incumbent OEMs entering the market with new model releases, finds the recent report from IDTechEx"
"while the market is growing, the price remains the main hurdle: a motorcycle with a 14kWh battery pack sells for over $15,000 today. The issue is exacerbated by the fact that electric motorcycles have the most appeal to environmentally conscious millennials who tend to have less purchasing power than older generations preferring loud pipes."
DAIMLER TO MOVE-UP COMBUSTION VEHICLE PHASE-OUT?
"In an interview, Daimler CEO Ola Källenius already hinted that the interim targets for electric vehicles could be revised upwards." reports electrive: "Källenius is, however, running through scenarios in the board of directors, according to which Mercedes could offer only new cars with electric units as early as five or eight years earlier. Until now, the farewell to diesel and petrol was scheduled for 2039."

SOLAREDGE TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPLY EV POWERTRAIN & BATTERY FOR FIAT E-DUCATO
"SolarEdge Technologies has announced that it has been chosen to supply the full electric powertrain units and batteries for the production of Fiat’s E-Ducato light commercial vehicle. SolarEdge Chief Executive Officer, Zivi Lando, spoke of the significant moment and how honored SolarEdge is to have been chosen." says CleanTechnica: "The Fiat e-Ducato is a commercial electric vehicle that has the option of a van, a chassis cab, and a “People Mover” van. The vehicle has up to 309 kilometers (192 miles) of range and there are two battery configurations."
HONDA NAMES R&D CHIEF MIBE AS NEW CEO TO LEAD IT INTO AN EV FUTURE
Honda Motor Co said on Friday Chief Executive Officer Takahiro Hachigo would step down, handing over the reins to the head of the automaker's research and development arm, Toshihiro Mibe, on April 1." reports Autblog: "Mibe's appointment, first reported by Reuters this week, comes as Honda races to catch up in the field of all-electric cars and faces competition from new entrants and tech giants such as Tesla, Apple and Amazon."
