MODEL Y SOFTWARE WINTER UPGRADE
"Tesla has silently released its software update version 2021.4.12 which focuses on the Winter Update for Model Y, particularly as the company aims to improve adaptability to cold weather conditions. " says Tech Times "The latest update called 2021.4.12 aims to address these issues, thereby allowing Tesla EVs to adapt to the winter's cold. According to Electrek, the latest update was spotted by Tesla Users who point out that its update notes reveal that there are minor updates for its Winter adaptability and Cold Weather improvements. Apart from that, the company has also addressed some minor bug issues, including several fixes to address the matter at hand."
But the most noticeable for those in cold weather is probably going to be the stronger regen to put energy back into the battery pack when it's colder.
TESLA COLLECTING TELEMETRY FOR INSURANCE
According to the white hat hacker @greentheonly on Twitter: "So we all heard how Tesla Insurance does not use individual driving data? Well, the times are a-changing. 2021.4.12 adds in collection of "insurance telemetry""
I have no issue with individual data points if it's anonymized.
One Twitter comment from @TeslaTony310: "They said as much a couple of conference calls ago. They had an option to launch just the regular type of insurance that exists in CA, or use vehicle telematics to offer a "better" product. Good to see it finally showing up."
TESLA LOBBIED UK TO RAISE TAX ON PETROL AND DIESEL
"Elon Musk’s Tesla lobbied the UK government to raise taxes on petrol and diesel cars in order to fund bigger subsidies for electric vehicles, alongside a ban on hybrids. The US electric car pioneer called for a rise in fuel duty and a charge on petrol and diesel car purchases to pay for grants and tax breaks such as a VAT exemption for battery-powered cars, according to submissions to the government seen by the Guardian." says a Tue 16th march article on guardian.co.uk by Jasper Jolly: "The proposals would theoretically add thousands of pounds to the cost of a new petrol or diesel car, while making electric cars cheaper. In the UK the Conservative government has frozen fuel duty for 11 years, a subsidy for petrol and diesel that has been worth more than £50bn."
TESLA MOVES AUTOMOTIVE PRESIDENT JEROME GUILLEN TO LEAD TRUCKING BUSINESS
"Tesla has moved its former president of Automotive, Jerome Guillen, into the role of president of Heavy Trucking according to a regulatory filing dated March 11, 2021. The change means less responsibility for Guillen, who oversaw the company’s entire vehicles business since his appointment in the third quarter of 2018. In its fourth-quarter 2020 shareholder deck, Tesla said the Semi program was still “in development” but promised Tesla Semi deliveries would begin in 2021."
HYUNDAI SET TO USE BYD BLADE BATTERIES IN CHINA
"According to a Korean media report, Hyundai Motor is in talks with BYD about the supply of blade batteries for electric cars to be sold in China. BYD is said to have already set up a business unit responsible for cooperation with Hyundai and has offered to supply the batteries to Hyundai from 2022 onwards." says electrive: "According to an article in Business Korea, BYD has offered to supply the South Korean carmaker with blade batteries from 2022. BYD has built a battery factory in Chongqing with a planned annual capacity of 20 GWh in the central Chinese city where Hyundai also has a car plant with an annual output of 300,000 vehicles. The BYD Chongqing factory is currently the only production base for the blade battery that was presented a year ago. Hyundai has so far relied on CATL as another battery cell supplier for its electric cars based on the E-GMP platform in addition to batteries from SK Innovation."

BYD BLADE BATTERY SET TO REVOLUTIONISE EV MARKET
BYD’s new Blade Battery headlines the recently-revealed specification for the company’s new seven-seat 2021-model BYD Tang SUV – the first car powered by BYD’s latest battery technology for the Norwegian market.
Following an exhaustive development programme, the Blade Battery returned truly impressive, class-leading test results; a stringent nail-penetration test confirmed the Blade Battery’s surface temperature reached a remarkably low 30º - 60º C while emitting no smoke or fire.
Further tests subjected the Blade Battery to a 300º C furnace test and a 260% overcharging test, neither of which resulted in fire or explosive response. The results provide evidence that the Blade Battery dramatically out-performs traditional ternary lithium batteries and Lithium Iron-Phosphate technologies.
For longevity, the Blade Battery tops 1.2 million km after 3,000 cycles of charging / discharging.

AUDI STOPS DEVELOPMENT OF NEW COMBUSTION ENGINES
"VW subsidiary Audi has abandoned the development of new combustion engines. The Volkswagen Group has initiated a remarkable transformation in the wake of the "Dieselgate" emissions cheating scandal of its own making, but it has not set an end date for combustion engine production." says Clean Energy Wire. And the reason? Euro 7 Emissions Standards.
CEO Markus Duesmann said the new emissions rules were: ""technically a huge challenge with little benefit for the environment.""

AUDI RS E-TRON GT FIRST DRIVE REVIEW
From Autoblog who had a Gernman spec car for the U.S. test drive: "The E-Tron GT starts at $99,900 (before destination charges, which haven't been announced for the 2022 model year). The RS adds $40,000. On paper, though, there are places where a Tesla Model S wins out — significantly more storage space with a 26.3 cubic foot trunk versus the Audi’s 14.3 (not to mention a 5.3 cubic foot frunk to the Audi’s 2.9), a claimed 1.9-second 0-60 time for the tri-motor $144,490 Plaid+ that also has maximum advertised range of 520 miles. But for those who are accustomed to traditional cars, it’s the unquantifiable areas like interior feel and steering response that give the Audi an edge. E-Tron GT slots neatly into the sweet spot between the base Taycan and 4S, while the RS E-Tron GT nuzzles between the 4S and Turbo. In both cases, the Audi strikes the perfect balance, and factoring its more car-like charm, it's arguably the one to get"
