MERCEDES TO UNVEIL FLAGSHIP ELECTRIC SEDAN
"Mercedes-Benz is about to unveil a new flagship model it expects to boast market-leading battery range, following through on its pledge to compete in the luxury electric-vehicle segment with top technology. The April 15 debut of the EQS -- the first Mercedes built on dedicated electric-car underpinnings -- will mark a milestone for the German brand that’s been criticized for taking too long to embrace EVs. Next year, Mercedes will be making eight fully electric cars on three continents, Chief Operating Officer Markus Schaefer said in a phone interview." writes Bloomberg: "The more than 700 kilometers (435 miles) of range Mercedes expects the EQS to achieve in lab testing is another indication Germany’s carmakers will have something to say about Tesla Inc.’s early domination of the EV space. The battery range Mercedes has touted for the EQS would exceed the 412 miles that Tesla estimates for the Long Range version of the Model S. The company provides U.S. data on its order website, which can vary from the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure used in Europe and elsewhere. Startup Lucid Motors Inc. has said it will sell a version of its Air sedan that offers 517 miles of range, and Tesla has estimated the Model S Plaid+ slated for late this year will get 520 miles."
DHL EXPRESS DEPLOYS NEARLY 100 NEW LIGHTNING ELECTRIC DELIVERY VANS IN U.S.
DHL Express – the world’s leading provider of international express shipping services – continues making investments to meet its ambitious goals for emissions reduction and climate protection. Following a successful initial pilot program using nine Lightning Electric Ford Transit 350HD electric vans in the U.S. late last year, the company plans to deploy another 89 electric vehicles this year in New York and California.
Produced by Lightning eMotors, a designer and manufacturer of complete zero-emission-vehicle (ZEV) solutions for commercial and government fleets, the new electric vehicles are highly durable and capable of achieving 61 MPGe, compared to 13 MPG for similar gas-powered vans. They also include proprietary telematics and analytics software, which will aid with route optimization, driver training and vehicle efficiencies.
Lightning eMotors, based in Loveland, Colorado, designs and manufactures zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, including delivery trucks, shuttle buses, passenger vans, chassis-cab models, city transit buses, and motor coaches.
WAYMO PROVIDES LOOK INSIDE SELF-DRIVING TRUCK TESTING
"Autonomous vehicle developer Waymo offered a look inside the day-to-day testing of its self-driving trucks on public roads through a virtual ride-along event for members of the press. During the March 24 live demonstration, a Class 8 tractor outfitted with Waymo’s automated driving system drove autonomously on highways near the company’s operations center outside of Phoenix. With a safety driver sitting behind the wheel, the truck autonomously performed lane changes and merges while negotiating moderate traffic, including passenger cars, a motorcycle and other large commercial trucks, on Interstate 10 and Arizona Route 202." according to ttnews.com@: "Waymo’s trucking program, named Waymo Via, is actively testing and developing technology designed to enable SAE Level 4 automated driving, meaning the truck would be able to drive itself with no human input or backup under certain conditions. this latest version of the Waymo Driver features higher-resolution lidar to create 3D images of the vehicle’s surroundings, as well as 360-degree camera sensors that can detect objects more than 500 meters away. Waymo debuted the fifth-generation system last year on electric Jaguar I-Pace passenger cars and recently adapted it to its trucking platform as well."

BYD YUAN PRO ARRIVES WITH A COBALT-FREE LFP BATTERY
"Recently, BYD renamed the Yuan EV to Yuan Pro and gave it a new more modern front, similar to the BYD Han EV. This electric car is now available to order in China and comes with a 50,1 kWh BYD Blade Battery for a NEDC range of 401 km." says Pedro at PushEVs.com: "The BYD Yuan Pro looks nice, however, the Han EV and D1 will probably be the most popular models for a while. The BYD D1 – that resembles a VW ID.3 – was initially aimed for car sharing services, but is now also available for private buyers with a starting price of 151.800 yuan (19.532 euros). Anyway, now BYD has a vast electric car offer in China that will eventually arrive to other important markets (Europe, North America and Australia). Production capacity is growing extremely fast and currently only the smallest electric car model BYD e1 still has a NCM battery, all other models already got upgraded to LFP (LiFePO4) battery cells with CTP (cell-to-pack) batteries."

"As we round up the end of the first quarter of 2021 it’s time to take stock of the (gradually) increasing choice for drivers on the local EV market, and take a look at what’s to come. EV MAKERS OPPOSE DELAY TO AUTOMOTIVE EMISSIONS PENALTY INCREASE
"Electric vehicle manufacturers are pushing back against a decision to delay penalty increases for automakers who fail to meet fuel efficiency standards." says TechCrunch: " new EV entrants say the penalty mechanism is a powerful performance incentive to decrease tailpipe emissions and encourage investment in lower- or zero-emissions technology. The decision, issued in January by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), postpones imposing a penalty increase from the beginning of model year 2019 to model year 2022. Tesla is petitioning the Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals to review the ruling"

TESLA TEQUILA BOTTLE ON SALE

Dubbed as the Tesla Decanter, the hand-blown bottle could be another highly sought collectible from the electric car maker. So far, the product seems to be unavailable in the United States, but Tesla’s Europe and China stores are currently offering it. The Tesla Decanter is priced at RMB779 ($119) in China and €150 ($176) in Europe. The lightning-shaped bottles are currently available for pre-order. "

SWISS GAS STATION CHAIN LAUNCHES NATIONAL FAST CHARGING NETWORK
"Migrol, a chain of gas stations associated with the Swiss grocery giant Migros, has announced plans to roll out a network of DC fast charging stations. Migrol currently operates more than 300 gas stations, many of them adjacent to convenience stores, car washes and/or auto repair shops." says ChargedEVs: "The chargers will be located along principal travel routes in Switzerland, and will offer power levels up to 160 kW. Charging will require no network membership or pre-registration, but will be payable using a debit or credit card"
