Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow says according to the Health Ministry, the ICU bed capacity in Penang government hospitals is now at 83 per cent.
Also, the World Health Organisation (WHO) says that the B.1.617 variant, first identified in India last year, is being classified as a variant of global concern.
The variant has already spread to other countries, and many nations have moved to cut or restrict movements from India.
