Is Voting Getting More Accessible For Blind And Partially Sighted People?
Season 1, Episode 752, Apr 29, 2021, 09:00 AM
Casting your vote independently and in secrecy is a statutory right in the UK but if you have a visual impairment, that's not always true.
UK sight loss charity RNIB has worked with the UK Cabinet Office and the Electoral Commission to improve the voting process and they are also piloting a new way of independent voting.
RNIB Connect Radio's Allan Russell spoke to Mike Wordingham, from RNIB, to learn more about the accessibility work and what advice is out there for people heading to the polling station, to improve their experience.
If you'd like more info on accessible voting, or would like a copy of the guide, go to www.rnib.org.uk/campaigning
There's also advice from the Helpline on 0303 123 9999 or ask your Alexa device to call RNIB Helpline.
