Uganda engages South Sudan over rising insecurity along Juba-Nimule highway

Authorities in Amuru District of Northern Uganda say they are engaging the government of South Sudan to ensure thousands of trucks loaded with commodities at the Elegu border crossing point are provided security to travel to Juba.
Up to three thousand truck drivers grounded their vehicles at Elegu in protest at raising insecurity along the Juba -Nimule road.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, the Resident District Commissioner of Amuru district, Geoffrey Osborn Oceng says the drivers are waiting for security clearance from the South Sudan government before they proceed with their journey.
In the most recent incident, ten people were killed in separate attacks by armed men and their vehicles burnt along the Juba-Yei road.
Juba-Nimule road is the major route for imports into South Sudan.
