Matt Lawton

Season 1, Episode 45,   Mar 09, 2021, 09:00 AM

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.
A batboy in the Mets’ organization when his brother Marcus played in the team’s minor league system, it might have seemed fated that Matt Lawton would suit up for the Mets.
Lawton came to the Mets at the 2001 trading deadline, where the struggling team were clear sellers, only to be part of a team that had a memorable and emotional stretch run highlighted by Mike Piazza’s memorable post-9/11 home run.
The team saw the skilled, all-around player as a potential piece of the future, but when the ultimately ill-fated opportunity arose to bring Roberto Alomar to Queens, Lawton’s tenure as a Met came to an abrupt end.
As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, ...
