Ep1: Flexing Your Positivity Muscle - Martin Perry

Season 3,   Jan 25, 2021, 04:00 AM

Welcome to the first episode of series 3 of The Mojo Podcast

This week I talk to Great Britain Para Table Tennis star Martin Perry. Born with no hands and one leg, Martin found a natural attraction to sport growing up with his three older brothers in Paisley, Scotland. He found his calling at aged 16, as he says, "table tennis seemed the obvious choice for a guy with no hands”.

After being inspired by the events of London 2012, Martin has gone on to win over 50 international medals for Great Britain including two European Championship Gold’s and winning the US Open. The two-time British National Champion has his eyes set on the Paralympic Games in Tokyo and beyond.

Martin is a true radiator of positive energy and thinking, he’s all about what is possible vs the apparently impossible. Indeed, he has a tattoo on his leg that says 'Disability' and the DIS is crossed out - this is his mantra. We talk about how this attitude has enabled him to play sport at the highest levels, as opposed to what his disability has prevented him from doing.
Martin shares how is able to see the positive in tough life situations, challenging match scenarios and how he instinctively sees the positive in all people.
His brand of positivity is both infectious and crucially, trainable, as for him positivity is a muscle you need to flex repeatably.

Find out more about Martin via his website or Linked In page - where you'll see his own podcast - The PerryPOD
Big thanks to The Athlete Media Group who helped arrange our conversation and through whom you can work with Martin.
Martin mentions the Scottish charity Finding Your Feet in the podcast - please do support them if you can.

Hope you enjoy it
