Butch Huskey

Season 1, Episode 42,   Oct 06, 2020, 02:44 AM

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.
Butch Huskey was a promising power prospect in the Mets organization in the mid-90s. With a build to match his name and scouts comparing him to Mark McGwire, there were high hopes that Huskey would unlock that power for the Mets.
A player without an obvious position on the diamond, Huskey had a solid 1997 season with the bat, with a personal highlight for him proudly sporting his #42 on Jackie Robinson Night at Shea Stadium on April 15, 1997. But Huskey never quite matched the heights some hoped he would reach, and he watched other prospects zip past him as the late 90s Mets climbed from obscurity to contention.
