Scammers Claiming to Be SAPOL Cops

Episode 1228,   Sep 25, 2020, 02:11 AM

SAPOL has issued a warning about a new scam involving callers posing as police officers.

The caller tells their victim that there has been an identity theft and the Australian Taxation Office will be calling them within a few minutes.

A fake ATO representative calls to ask for private and personal information.

These scammers are using technology to make it look like the call has originated from legitimate South Australian SAPOL and ATO numbers.

The Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Dini Soulio, joins Jennie Lenman to discuss how to navigate such a sophisticated scheme.
