UN children’s agency – UNICEF, and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – UNESCO, are advocating for the ‘safe reopening’ of schools in #SouthSudan
According to a joint statement by the two UN agencies, evidence has proven that the longer children are out of school due to COVID-19 lock down restrictions, the less likely they are to return. They say children are better protected while in school.
UNICEF Representative in South Sudan Mohamed Ayoya says that the longer children stay away from school, the more it impacts on their physical and mental health.
He spoke to Radio Miraya in this 5" interview.
