UN Special Representative, David Shearer, on Celebrating South Sudan Independence

The UN Special Representative to South Sudan, David Shearer has joined the people of South Sudan in commemorating the country’s 9th independence anniversary and has recognized the positive impact that the peace agreement has had on communities across the country.
In a statement in observance of the day, Mr Shearer called on the Presidency and the members of Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity, to function as a unified entity in the interest of peace.
Mr. Shearer said decisions should be made collectively by the Presidency in order to meet the deadline of organizing free and fair elections at the end of the transitional period as stipulated in the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.
