Tracking weak global cues, Indian markets started on a negative note on Monday, and the fall only extended as fears of a second wave of COVID-19 infections sent jitters across global markets.

The S&P BSE Sensex plunged more than 500 points towards the close but buying towards the close of the trade helped the index close above 33000. The Nifty50 also held onto its crucial support at 9800 levels.
