Piece based on dog-powered treadmill by Mike Tupling.
"I was fascinated by the picture of the dog treadmill and, having dogs of my own, wondered how they might behave in such a device. The piece, which is really just a sketch, imagines a dog dreaming of running free whilst being restrained in the confines of the treadmill.
"The piece uses sounds recorded locally and a treated recording of an arpeggio played on a piano with the mechanical sounds of the pedals and keys emphasised and, as much as possible, the sound of the actual notes being struck suppressed. The piece ends with a recording of one of my dogs drinking after his morning exercise. "
