Hail subsiding/homemade greenhouse

Portland lockdown sounds recorded by Juniana.

"As of the time of this recording, we have gotten to the point of a "shelter-in-place" executive order. Many people are working from home, some have been temporarily laid off. Restaurants are take-out only, grocery stores have restricted numbers of people - many of us are ordering groceries to be delivered.

"It is clear, walking through the neighborhood (keeping a 6' distance from others,) that most neighbors are staying busy at home.  There are many people out working in their yards, playing with their children, and walking their dogs.  More than I've ever seen.

"I spent some time on the first day stuck at home constructing a small greenhouse out of scrap wood I found in my backyard, and used a large plastic bag for the cover.

"I planted seeds in containers to put inside it, starting my garden earlier this year than ever before.  I know that a lot of people have.  There is a comfort in knowing we can grow our own food, especially since we don't know how long this will last - weeks... months??"

"In my recording, I am entering my backyard during a brief, surprise hailstorm on a chilly, but partly sunny day (typical for the Pacific NW.) As I walk across my yard, holding a hat over my recorder, the hail slows and I approach my little greenhouse.

"I move the plastic door aside and rest my recorder inside.  You can hear drops of water dripping on the plastic from the tree branches above.

"My neighbors are also working on projects while stuck at home and you can hear their banging and power tools in the background. We live near a major interstate road and the faint sound of the remaining traffic hums in the distance.

"I wonder if there will be a day that we won't hear any traffic on that road."
