Tony Fernandez
Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.
Tony Fernandez sadly passed away last month after a long battle with kidney disease at the age of 57. Known primarily as a key figure on some great Toronto Blue Jays teams of the 1980s, Fernandez would come to the Mets in 1993 as the latest in a long line of veteran name acquisitions. The franchise was foolishly hoping to recapture its fading glory, but instead put together a collection memorialized as “The Worst Team Money Could Buy.”
We will look back at Fernandez’s impressive career, his disappointing tenure with the Mets, his untimely death, and his historic ranking as a fine candidate for a “Hall of Very Good
As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app...
