Genetically-modified babies described ‘ethically justifiable’ by University bioethicist

Creating genetically-modified babies is both ethically justifiable and "highly desirable", that is according to an Abertay University bioethicist.
Dr Kevin Smith claimed the risks of gene editing were now low enough to justify its use with human embryos, and that an "ethically-sound attempt" could be less than two years away.

Some argue this is playing God - While others highlight it could be a way to offer hope to parents at risk of transmitting serious genetic disease to their future children.

On air to discuss this was commentator Fionola Meridith and Rev David McIlveen.
