School uniforms, naming - he / she / they, use of toilets and changing rooms, access to sports and admissions to single-sex schools -  that's just some of the issues covered in new guidelines for schools in Northern Ireland on how to support transgender pupils. The guidance is from the Education Authority - the body responsible for schools here. The EA says it reflects best practice in supporting transgender pupils and applies to pre-schools, primary schools, post primary and special schools as well as other educational and youth service settings.
