Breaking the barriers to LGBTQ+ healthcare
Season 1, Episode 22, Aug 01, 2019, 03:39 PM
A significant number of LGBTQ adults and teens face barriers to their healthcare out of fears of discrimination and sometimes inadequate training towards certain care needs that are common concerns for that patient population.
Even though the National Institutes of Health has made the LGBTQ+ patient population a priority for research into health disparities, some health professionals say there isn’t much training or information to help healthcare providers.
A nurse educator discusses some the problems that LGBTQ+ patients face and how healthcare providers can look to better serve those patients.
