Willie Montanez

Season 1, Episode 18,   Jul 30, 2019, 01:28 AM

Welcome to UnforMETable, a new show from Amazin’ Avenue that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past

As the trade deadline approaches, we take a look at the career and Mets tenure of the colorful, well-traveled Willie Montanez. Traded eight times in the course of his career—including being involved in one of the most memorable trades in major league history—Montanez eventually found his way to the Mets in the 1977 offseason.

In one of the bleaker seasons in Mets history, the first basement injected some much-needed verve into a moribund season, his memorable and stylized home run trot even inspiring some memorable spoofing. Hear about Montanez’s tenure in Queens along the way of his many major league stops.
