In this episode of the Out of Chicago Podcast, we talk to Chris Nicholson, author of Photographing National Parks, about what to expect when shooting the great outdoors, how to prepare and what to bring.
He also discusses some of his favorite and most-visited national parks.
Nicholson, from Astoria, Queens (N.Y.), started visiting national parks with his family when he was just 1-year-old. He’s been visiting ever since, being published in over 30 magazines and books. He’s photographed Arcadia, the Everglades, Grand Teton, Great Smoky Mountains, Olympic, Shenandoah and Yellowstone parks a combined 26 times, and has visited roughly half of the 59 national parks.
Chris is currently working on a project called “National Parks at Night,” with four other photographers, where he hosts photography workshops at five national parks per year — only once.
His book, Photographing National Parks, was released in late summer 2015, and is available for purchase on Amazon. You can learn more about Chris at photographingnationalparks.com.
