MPs vote for LGBT inclusive sex and relationship education for primary schools in England.

Following an overwhelming vote in Parliament, relationship education - including information on LGBT relationships - is to become compulsory in all schools in England. Both primary and secondary school pupils are covered by the new regulations which will be introduced in 2020. Among the small number of MPs who voted against the new regulations were most of the 10 DUP members - Gregory Campbell, Nigel Dodds, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, Paul Girvan, Gavin Robinson, Jim Shannon, and Sammy Wilson. It comes against the backdrop of protests by Muslim parents in Birmingham who say their primary school children are too young to learn about same sex relationships. One of the schools at the centre of the protests has suspended its teaching on LGBT relationships. In Northern Ireland, the curriculum gives advice on how schools should deliver relationships and sexuality education. But it's up to individual schools whether they teach about LGBT relationships at all.
