Mother of murdered toddler Jamie Bulger pleads with makers of a movie about his killers to pull the film from the Oscars
The mother of murdered toddler Jamie Bulger has asked a filmmaker to withdraw his film from the Oscars nomination pool. Denise Fergus spoke about Vincent Lambe's Oscar-nominated short film Detainment, which centres around the police interviews of James' killers, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, who were both 10 years old at the time. Ms Fergus has penned an open letter to Mr Lambe, She says in the letter: "James was my baby and not yours and it certainly wasn't 'your responsibility' to tell it, you have no right to use what happened to my son as a way to try and make a name for yourself." Lambe has previously apologised for upsetting James' family but has said he will not withdraw the film. What do you think about that? Should families always be consulted before these types of films are made? Should he withdraw his film from the Oscars? Stephen got the views of Fionola Meredith and and Aileen O'Reilly.
