The PIP disability payment controversy continues - caller Gerard tells us about his PIP benefit experience
There is a man at the top of the Civil Service this morning - close to the very top - his name is Leo O'Reilly. He is a permanent secretary. What is he doing with his power to protect the most vulnerable people in our society? Another day another damming story of Personal Independent Payment assessments. Yesterday we heard from John McMullan, his son Declan has locked in syndrome, despite being unable to move, talk or eat and requiring 24 hour care Declan was scored 2 out of 8 for managing his treatments. 6 out of 8 for eating and drinking when he was assessed by a PIP assessor. But this isn't a one off. Last week we heard from Aisling her 16 year old son Pearse is severely disabled also requiring 24 hour care. He has cerebral palsy, a learning disability, he takes seizures, he can't walk, he is non-verbal, and he has been peg fed through a tube since he was 12. This morning we heard from Gerard about his PIP benefit experience.
