Incantation

Reimagined by Marc Gilley.

"Initially I wanted to hear the birds as precisely as possible so I filtered out human noises from the ferry building, conversation, noises, etc... and slowed the remaining bird song quite a bit (1/8 speed), which dropped the pitch as well. Doing so exposed a variety of resonances inherent in the space as well as the melodic power of the bird song. It brought to mind a cathedral or large cave. The work was composed with that in mind, a vocal incantation in a resonant space, using the bird song as the foundation. There are layers at 1/8th speed, 1/4 speed, and full-speed. The only non-bird sound are the "bells" heard at the beginning- an ambient scrape found in the original recording. There are no additional sounds from other recordings, and little to no processing. Edits, simple eq, and balancing account for almost everything."
