Ep. 1 - Let's Talk With Sharaad Kuttan : Port Dickson is it a waste of money?
It's the week of the Port Dickson by-election - with voters going to the polls on Saturday the 13th. This election was precipitated by Parti Keadilan Rakyat when its recently elected Member of Parliament resigned in favour of his party President, Anwar Ibrahim. His re-entry into Parliament is central to the leadership plans of the Pakatan Harapan government, well telegraphed months before the General Elections.
Anwar is expected to take over from current PM Dr. Mahathir when he steps down. But the results of the by-election are not a foregone conclusion - no democratic election ought to be. Campaigning began in earnest last week with 6 other hopefuls in the race. There's a lot chatter about this move to force a by-election as well as the electoral system as whole and what exactly constitutes an election violation. Tonight we speak to a few voters in PD - visual artist Sharon Chin and writer Zedeck Siew - and also Bersih executive director Yap Swee Seng about electoral violations.
And joining Sharaad Kuttan in the studio is Art Harun, the newly minted Chairperson of the Election Commission.
