Round the Horne
It is strange listening to this, reminding oneself that it began when gay sex was illegal.
Round the Horne began in 1965 on the Light Programme, later on BBC Radio 2. Although it lasted for just three years, the memories remain. Barry Took and Marty Feldman were its creators - and its stars Kenneth Horne, Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden and Bill Pertwee. The name ‘Round the Horne’ is one of the show’s many puns – apparently a play on the nautical phrase for sailing around Cape Horn. Of course.
