South Connect: Supreme Court directs water level of Mullaperiyar dam at 139ft

Supreme Court directs that the water level at Mullaperiyar reservoir be maintained at 139 ft till August 31 in view of Kerala floods. Earlier Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Friday dismissed the Kerala government’s allegation in the Supreme Court that sudden release of water from Mullaiperiyar Dam by Tamil Nadu had led to flood in the neighbouring states. Earlier, Mr. Palaniswami inspected the collapsed regulator himself inspecting the damaged structure and also got into the river for a closer look at the damaged portion. He announced that a new regulator would be built at a cost of ₹410 crores across the Coleroon river about 100 metres away from the regulator that had collapsed.
